VIII ITALIAN BUSINESS FORUM 2020 Matchmaking for circular recovery The eighth edition of the Italian Business Forum brings together entrepreneurs and experts from both countries focusing on finding ways to cooperate in seizing sustainable business opportunities. The programme is laid out in three sessions: Opening of VII IBF 14th October 2020 10:30 – 12:30 Workshop I: Sustainable Materials 28th October 2020 10:30 – 12:30, 14:30 – 16:30 Workshop II: Sustainable Cross-border tourism 5th November 2020 10:30 – 12:30, 14:30 – 16:30 1 Concept I. Opening session In the introductory session we give floor to institutions, organiser and partners. We closely address the aim of VIII Italian Business Forum and present the agenda of the two match-making sessions. II. Format of matchmaking workshops Matchmaking workshops are intended for participating companies to expose their needs and present what they offer in a potential partnership. The first session will be dedicated to sustainable and innovative materials and the second one on sustainable cross-border tourism. Morning sessions from 10.30 - 12-30: - Welcome and presentation of the agenda of the day, introduction to the tropic (short expert presentation or a best practice) - Company's presentations: o Who we are and what we do; o What we are looking for in terms of partnerships o What we can offer in a partnership, 8 minutes each plus 5 minutes for questions Afternoon sessions 14.30 - 16.30 - Company presentations continued - Evaluation of proposals from a tech / industry expert (10') - Evaluation of proposals from a banking expert; (10') - Reversed pitching: Second round addresses to participating companies from interested participants - Conclusions and follow-up (ICE, CBA) 2 III. Participation Free of charge, limited seats (max 100) IV. Selection of participating companies Four companies are selected per each session to present their needs and proposals: They are selected upon invitation or upon their own initiative and by approval by the organisers (ICE, CBA). V.     EUROPEAN CITY OF SCIENCE 2020 Freedom for Science, Science for Freedom 1 FREEDOM FOR SCIENCE, SCIENCE FOR FREEDOM Dear Dr. Tindemans I would like to express again the support of the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research – MIUR – to the candidature of Trieste to host the Euro Science Open forum (ESOF) in 2020. The candidature is solid and the proposed PROESOF2020 program, with the specifc goal of promoting discussion and deepening European scientifc collaboration ahead of the opening of ESOF is an unprecedented initiative represents an added value to the Valeria Fedeli proposal. Minister of Instruction, University and Research The motto “Freedom for Science, Science for Freedom”, is a refection of our times. Not only does it apply to the modern age, but it also provides guidance in the face of rapidly changing societies resulting from technological advancements and innovations, and Trieste, for it’s very well known high concentration of national and international Scientifc Institutions, functioning both as institutes of higher education as well as science and technology parks for high level research, and for both geographic and historical reasons, could not be a more ftting city to be named the European City of Science. Euro Science Open Forum would surely gain extra visibility and play an unprecedented role in the integration of Europe and in the relations between Europe and the Far-East and the South Mediterranean, and we believe that, with all its outreach and scientifc opportunities, ESOF 2020 would represent a milestone in Italy’ events to promote the role of science in society in a European context.

    Not many people know that apart from its natural and cultural attributes, Trieste is also home to an exceptionally large and diverse scientific community, in the form of a huge variety of research institutes and infrastructures: the Area Science Park.     Speakers Macro-Regional Innovation Week At the crossroads of three European Macro-Regions: Danube, Adriatic-Ionian and Alpine Regions 26-30 September 2016 Trieste, Italy Giancarlo Caratti Head of Unit, Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer, Competences, Directorate-General Joint Research Centre, European Commission Dr Ing. Giancarlo CARATTI is heading the "Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer" department at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, which manages the Intellectual Property of the European Commission, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, denomination of origin, etc. In his previous assignments, Mr Caratti managed other Commission departments, namely: "Institutional and International Relations", "Enlargement" and "Policy Support Strategy". Mr Caratti has started his career in the European Commission in 1986 within the unit "Renewable Energy R&D". In 1996 he was appointed Advisor to the Director of the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies in charge of coordination of the scientific work programme and stakeholder relations. He then took over the responsibility of other central units in the JRC, namely the "Policy Support Strategy" in 1999. Last year, he was Deputy Commissioner General for the EU participation in the World Expo 2015, as appointed by the President of the European Commission on 3.5.2013. He was also leading the EU Expo 2015 Task Force, which coordinated the participation of the EU institutions in the Expo. Mr Caratti's educational background is in Mechanical Engineering, with specialisation in Energy. Before joining the Commission he worked in the Faculties of Engineering of Florence (1982) and Pisa (1984-1985), teaching and researching on Industrial Systems and Energetics. In 1983 he spent one year as visiting scholar at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA in the field of Energy Modelling.
