A new Lok Sabha has been elected under the Constitution charged with great and heavy responsibilities for the welfare of the country and our people. It is fit and proper, as is customary on such an occasion, that we all stand in silence for a short while before we begin our proceedings. SPEAKER PRO TEM: I have to inform the house that the Speaker had received a letter dated the 21 May, 2009 from Shri Akhilesh Yadav, an elected Member from Firozabad and Kannauj constituencies of Uttar Pradesh resigning from the membership of Lok Sabha from the Firozabad constituency of Uttar Pradesh. The Speaker has accepted his resignation with effect from 26th May, 2009.
