For each event, there will be two heats of six boats. The winner of each heat will progress directly to final A, which will determine places 1-6 (including the medals). All other boats from the heats will compete in two repechage races; the first two boats in each repechage will go forward to final A, while the remaining boats from the repechages will go forward to final B, which will determine places 7-12. Competition draw The draw for the para-rowing competition will be conducted by International Rowing Federation (FISA) officials at Lagoa Stadium on Thursday 8 September 2016, the day after the Opening Ceremony. The FISA executive committee will appoint a seeding panel, which will place up to two crews in each heat to ensure that the faster crews do not all start in one heat. The seeding will only affect the placing of crews into the heats, and will not be taken into account for any of the later rounds of the competition. Sport rules and procedures The para-rowing competition will be held in accordance with the editions of the following documents that are in force at the time of the Games: FISA rules of racing and related bye-laws and the FISA para rowing regulations (available at www.worldrowing.com/fisa/publications/rule-book) The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) handbook (available at www.paralympic.org/the- ipc/handbook) FISA, working with Rio 2016 rowing competition management, will be responsible for the technical control and direction of the rowing competition at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Changes since the London 2012 Paralympic Games None. Rowing Remo Differences from the Olympic Games Mixed crews participate in the Paralympic Games. Races are conducted over 1000m in the Paralympic Games rather than 2000m in the Olympic Games. Intermediate times are collected at 250m, 500m and 750m rather than 500m, 1000m and 1500m.
