FEATURED FACILITIES - NEW TO THE CITY OF TORRINGTON FRANKLIN PLAZA Franklin Plaza is scheduled to open in 2020. The plaza will be available to rent for programs and events. The City of Torrington anticipates that Franklin Plaza will be an attractive venue for events throughout the year for the community to enjoy. TORRINGTON DOG PARK AT JOHN TORO SPORTS COMPLEX The City of Torrington Plans to open a Dog Park at John Toro Sports Complex in 2020. The city will be looking for sponsors and individuals to assist with fundraising to add additional amenities to the Dog Park. For more information, contact the Parks and Recreation Department Design Subject to Change. at (860) 489-2274. DISC GOLF COURSE AT ALVORD PARK The first 9 holes of the Disc Golf Course at Alvord Park will officially open in the Spring of 2020. The Parks and Recreation Department has plans to expand the course to 18 holes and is looking for volunteers and sponsors to assist with this goal. For more information, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (860) 489-2274. 3 The Next Generation of Dance, Gymnastics & Fitness Summer Session begins June 27 - August 22, 2020 (No class 7/4) Fee: $100.00 for 8 Weeks Dance Instructors/Fitness Trainers: Sherry S. Grech, Alyssa Fabiaschi, and/or Jenna Laigle Class Location: Recreation Hall, 71 East Albert Street You can register in person at the Torrington Parks and Recreation Department in the Armory at 153 South Main Street or online at http://www.torringtonct.org. Cash or check accepted in the office. Credit card purchases may be made online only, with a convenience fee applied to each transaction. Once classes begin, no refunds will be given unless there are medical reasons, accompanied by a written note from a physician. Contact Sherry Grech (860) 307-5166 for more information. 4 IRISH STEP DANCING - LEARN DANCES OF THE EMERALD ISLE! Traditional and Contemporary Irish Step Dancing, Ceili Dancing, and Group Figures. Irish Dance is a lively, quick, and very fun genre. Children usually love it. Classes are taught by Jack McArdle, who has over 35 years experience, including performances at Carnegie Hall and on Irish TV. Jack achieved certification as a master teacher of Irish Dance with the Irish Dance Commission in Dublin, Ireland. All dancers aim for mastery of the art; many join the performance team; some undertake the more intense commitment needed to gain world-class status in contemporary work. All are welcome. Dates/Times: One (1) hour lessons; exact time depends on achievement level. Beginners always start on Fridays. Session 1: September - Mid January Session 2: Late January - June Wednesdays: 7:00 - 9:30 PM Fridays: 6:00 - 9:00 PM Saturdays: 3:00 PM (competitions/performances) Location: Recreation Hall Fee: $320.00 per student, per session Instructor: Jack McArdle, T.C.R.G NORTHWEST VOCAL SHOWCASE This year marks the 15th Anniversary of this very popular singing competition. Start preparing now for your audition. Auditions will consist of each participant singing a cappella. All interested participants must complete an application, which is available in the Torrington Parks & Recreation Department at the Armory or online at www.torringtonct.org - link to Parks and Recreation. The competition is open to all individuals ages 15 and up. Applications are due by May 29, 2020. *Prizes will be awarded to the Top Three Finalists! Entrance Fee: $5.00 Adults; $3.00 Youth (ages 7-17); **Made possible by grants from children under 6 are free.
