Tal y como hicimos en la primera edición, la de invierno, esta revista quiere introducirle los rasgos culturales, deportivos, artísticos, gastronómicos y musicales que tenemos en Andorra y que podrá descubrir en su estancia en nuestro pequeño país. Podrá elegir entre una amplia gama de actividades que encontrará en estas páginas y le desvelaremos la agenda de los eventos más importantes que se producirán durante los meses de verano en Andorra. Como podrá comprobar, hay para todos los gustos. La revista nace con el objetivo de divulgar y acercar nuestro país a los miles de turistas que cada año nos visitan, y es que Andorra está reconocido como el país del mundo con más turistas por habitante. ‘Discover Andorra’ es una publicación imprescindible para situar Andorra y conocer la actividad que se desarrolla en la temporada de verano. ¡Que tenga una excelente estancia en Andorra y un muy buen verano! DESCUBRIMOS ANDORRA El Principado de Andorra es un estado independiente en forma de coprincipado situado en los Pirineos, entre España y Francia. Es uno de los estados más pequeños del mundo con sólo 468 kilómetros cuadrados. Andorra tiene una población de 80.000 habitantes, de los cuales 36.000 son de nacionalidad andorrana. El país se divide en siete parroquias: Canillo, Encamp, Ordino, La Massana, Andorra la Vella, Sant Julià de Lòria y Escaldes- Vall del Madriu Engordany. La geografía andorrana es montañosa, con 65 picos de más de 2.500 metros de altitud y más de 60 lagos. As with the first winter edition, this magazine promotes the cultural, sports, artistic, gastronomic and musical features that we have in Andorra and that you can discover during your stay in our small country. You can choose something from the many activities detailed within these pages, and we reveal details of the most important events taking place during the summer months in Andorra. As you can see, there is something to satisfy all choices. DISCOVER ANDORRA Andorra is an independent state and is recognized as a principality as it is a diarchy (a form of government) headed by two Co-Princes, located in the Pyrenees, between Spain and France. Andorra is one of the smallest countries in the world having an area of 468 km2. Andorra has a population of approximately 80.000, of which 36.000 have Andorran nationality. The country is divided into 7 parishes: Canillo, Encamp, Bike Park Soldeu - Andorra Turisme Ordino, La Massana, Andorra la Vella, Sant Julià de Lòria and Escaldes-Engordany. The Andorran geography is mountainous, with 65 peaks of over 2,500 meters altitude and more than 60 lakes. Comapedrosa (2,942 m) mountain is the highest spot in Andorra, the border with Spain is the lowest spot (838 m).     History of Andorra

    History of Andorra The origin of the Principality of Andorra dates to the time of Charlemagne, the medieval ruler whose kingdom included most of western and central Europe. In AD 803,Charlemagne defeated the Moors in what is present-day Andorra. According to tradition, Charlemagne then gave the land to the Andorrans as a reward for their support in the campaign. After Charlemagne’s death, his grandson Charles IImade Spain’s Count of Urgell the ruler of Andorra. In 1133, the new Count of Urgell gave the land to the Bishop of Urgell, who in turn placed it under the protection of a Spanish nobleman, the Lord of Caboet. A French nobleman, the Count of Foix, then married into the Lord of Caboet’s family and inherited all the Spanish lord’s lands. A dispute over the status of Andorra then arose between the then Bishop of Urgell and the Count of Foix. In 1278, the two men signed an agreement that gave France and Spain joint sovereignty of Andorra. More than three hundred years later, in 1607, the French king Henry IV issued an edict stating that the French head of state and the Bishop of Urgell were co-princes of Andorra. The unique arrangement allowed Andorra to remain a separate principality, not incorporated into either France or Spain. Andorra remained neutral during World War I (1914–18).Then, during the Spanish Civil War (1936–39), it became a hub for smuggling goods from France into Spain and, during World War II (1939–45), a hub for smuggling goods from Spain into France.
