Instrumental Newsletter EDITORIAL BOB HOWE I hope you all had a great Christmas. And have a “COLLABORATION” (With NICKI GILLIS) happy and safe 2010. Plans are under way for our eighth SHOWNET RECORDS (Aust) NBCD-001 “Shadoz” – more details later. WALL OF DEATH / CHASING CARS / LIFE‟S A GAS / GONNA LAY DOWN MY OLD GUITAR / MAY YOU Geoff NEVER / IT DOESN‟T MATTER ANYMORE / LAY BACK IN THE ARMS OF SOMEONE / EVERYBODY HURTS / THE PRICE OF LOVE / GONNA LAY DOWN MY OLD CD REVIEWS FROM GEOFF‟S GUITAR (INST) Only one instrumental on this set which sees JUKEBOX Bob join forces with Nicki Gillis on a pleasant vocal album, featuring some great guitar, mandolin, steel, banjo ♫♫♫♫♫♫ and fiddle thrown in. It‟s a laid back, country influenced, „contemporary pop‟ album which I found very tasteful AUSTRALIAN and enjoyable. JOE ROBINSON “BIRDSEED” SUNBALL RECORDS (Aust) No Number BIRSA / BLUE MOON / BLIND HOSE RAG / GOGAMET / BLISTERS / BIRDSEED / NUBECK / MOWIN‟ THAT BLUEGRASS / STOMP THROB / CHICKIN LICKIN / CHATTERBOX / THE ENTERTAINER THE ATLANTICS "POINT ZERO BACKING TRACKS" ATLANTICS MUSIC (Aust) A-010 (Stereo) POINT ZERO / GATECRASHER / BEATBUSTER / WARP 5 / CHATTERBOX / BLOND STREET / RETURN OF THE DOLPHINS / TRANSATLANTIC / SANDBAR BLUES / FEZ “TIME JUMPIN‟” / URBAN SURF / HAWAII FIVE-0 / SURF-A-GO-GO / UNIVERSAL / ABC (Aust) 2705977 AFTER THE STORM STRUTTING IT / IT‟S NOT EASY / MISTY / FLEABITES / Strictly for the budding Martin Cilia‟s among DADDY LONGLICKS / BERGESON FRIES (Feat. TOMMY you – this is (as usual) well produced and presented. Not EMMANUEL) / ROYAL FLUSH / TIME JUMPIN‟ / DIZZY something I‟d play too often – just not the same without / FIREFLIES / LARRY‟S BLUES / MIDNIGHT IN Martin! NASHVILLE I finally managed to track down these two albums, from 2007 and 2009. Joe has come up with two sets which showcase his super (mainly) acoustic guitar playing. More than a nod to Chet, Merle & Co., many of the tracks remind me of early Tommy Emmanuel, who 1 actually guests on “Bergeson Fries”. There are lots of NIMBLE BONES - EVERTON PARK / STAR SPANGLED guitar tricks, like harmonics, jazzy solos, fast pickin‟ BANNER - STAR SPANGLED BANNER / SAILING - STAR moody pieces and other „technical stuff‟. Very good SPANGLED BANNER / MR. MEAN MOUTH - LOBBY indeed. LOYDE & THE COLOURED BALLS / LOVE ME GIRL - LOBBY LOYDE & THE COLOURED BALLS / CAPTAIN STRAIGHTMAN - THUMP‟N PIG & PUFF‟N BILLY / BOW KIM HUMPHREYS MY HEAD - THUMP‟N PIG & PUFF‟N BILLY / BONUS “KIM HUMPHREYS DEMONSTRATES VINTAGE TRACKS: DON‟T WORRY - CARSON / THEY‟VE CUT GUITARS” DOWN ALL THE TREES - DAVID PICKARD VR ICON „L SERIES STRAT‟ This 2 CD package is mainly vocal, but includes CLIFFS OF DOVER / REDHOUSE / MAN OF MYSTERY / 3 instrumentals – “Gil‟s Thing” which is described as “a WICKED GAME / WALK DON‟T RUN bit of fun in the studio from the funky wah wah / chicken VR100 „LES PAUL JR. SINGLE P90‟ scratch guitar and the shifts in tempo to the backwards JOYFUL NOISE tape sound at the end”. The Aztecs‟ “Regulation 3 Pufff” TC200 „50‟S TELE‟ NASHVILLE EXPRESS is “a jazzy 7 minute jam session” including Gil VRS 100 „PRS‟ Matthews, Thorpie, Lobby Loyde and others. Loyde‟s BLUE BOSSA / BECAUSE THEY‟RE YOUNG / EUROPA / “Slowest Guitar On Earth” is described as “an effortless TALK TO YOUR DAUGHTER / COUNTRY BOY / SATCH guitar jam”. Most of the vocals are, well, forgettable. BOOGIE OVERSEAS “VINTAGE BEANO BLUES (DEMOS RECORDED WITH THE VINTAGE V100 LEMON DROP” EDDIE COCHRAN THE SUPERNATURAL / WALKIN‟ WITH THE PANTHER / “STRING FEVER” STOP MESSIN‟ AROUND / BRAZIL / STEPPIN‟ OUT / ROCKSTAR (UK/EU) RSRCD 031 PARISIENNE WALKWAYS / CANNONBALL SHUFFLE / STRING FEVER / NICE‟N‟EASY / PUSHIN‟ / FAST JIVIN‟ / GREENIE‟S ORANGE BLUES / JEFF‟S BOOGIE / THE GUITAR BLUES / JUNGLE JINGLE / GUYBO (VERSION STUMBLE / FLINGLE BUNT / NEED YOUR LOVE SO 1) / MEET MR. There‟s a variety of self-penned material DEARIE / COUNTRY JAM / SHOTGUN WEDDING and some RI favourites. The CD‟s are limited editions, THEME / CHICKEN SHOT BLUES / EDDIE‟S BLUES / and are free to anyone who cares to send Kim an email: LONESOME BLUES / BREAD FRED / MY WAY / JELLY [email protected] It‟s great to see that BEAN / DON‟T BYE, BYE BABY ME / RAIN / GETTING‟ Kim is „back on track‟ and these are an indication of FUNKY / FUNK CITY / UNDECIDED / ANNIE HAD A PARTY / SO FINE, BE MINE what‟s to come, intonation and all. Of course, he is best known to „Joe MOST PEOPLE I KNOW THINK THAT I‟M CRAZY - Public‟ for his hits like C‟mon Everybody, Summertime THE AZTECS / REGULATION 3 PUFFF - THE AZTECS / Blues, Something Else and Three Steps To Heaven, GLORIA - JEFF PHILLIPS / COME GO WITH ME - JEFF PHILLIPS / BELIEVE IT JUST LIKE ME - THE AZTECS / among others. Great. 2 MAN OF MYSTERY - STEVE STANNARD & HIS GROUP / THE ROYALTONES RHYTHM & GREENS - BUD ASHTON & HIS GROUP / "DETROIT ROCK „N‟ ROLL BEGAN HERE!" Competent enough, but don‟t have the „edge‟ of the originals. “SELECTED PALETTE & PYE SINGLES 57-70” STYLUS (UK) 10P TING93 BOUDHA - THE COUSINS / PHANTOM GUITAR - THE PHANTOMS / ANDA - THE COUSINS / CACHINA - THE PHANTOMS / DANSEVISE - THE COUSINS / HULA TWIST - THE REG OWEN ORCH. / IPPY YIPPY BEATNIK - THE PLANETS / LIKE PARTY - THE PLANETS / HAWAII TATTOO - THE WAIKIKIS / THE LONELY MAN THEME - CLIFF ADAMS ORCH. / TRIGGER HAPPY - CLIFF ADAMS ORCH. / EARLY BIRD SATELLITE - ANDRE BRASSEUR / SPECIAL 230 - ANDRE BRASSEUR / COFFEE BAR JIVE - JOE „MR. Editors Dave Burke KNIGHTRIDERS / NO HATS ON ILKLEY - DAVID EDE & and Alan Taylor also contribute liner notes to this set, RABIN BAND / ANDORRA - RON GRAINER / MEET MR. which contain all of the group‟s recorded output. RABBIT - BOB WALLIS / MARCH OF THE GONKS - Surprisingly, they never released an album, but these JACK DORSEY ORCH. / CROSSROADS - THE TONY tracks - 30 in all, include some instrumental „classics‟ by HATCH ORCH. / MUSIC TRAIN - HONEYCOMBS / this much under-rated band. Mainly guitar and sax led, HURRICANE - HONEYCOMBS / WIPE OUT - the set also includes “Royal Whirl”, later covered by HONEYCOMBS / GOLDFINGER - HONEYCOMBS Australia‟s Thunderbirds. Solid Gold - Jeff Apter & Philip Morris, Metcalfe Theatre, State Library of NSW, 5th December 2015] [Dressed in a black shirt and dark jeans, grey-haired Philip Morris sits beside his interviewer Jess Apter, a bald man dressed casually] [JEFF APTER] Thank you. Before starting, I want to say I was really fortunate to be able to work with Philip on this book. [Jeff Apter holds up a coffee table book] [JEFF APTER] And it was one of the more interesting exercises, wasn't it? Because we were given a directive to come up with... Was it 200 photos? ..for this book. [PHILIP MORRIS] That's right. [JEFF APTER] And Philip's archive is so fantastic and so rich, that I think we got it down to, what, 600? [PHILIP MORRIS] Yeah. [Audience laughs] [JEFF APTER] Was it 600 to start with? It was something like that. And it's staggering, really. It's a really great document of Australian rock history at a really interesting turning point. So to get it down to this... It's begging for a second edition, by the way. There's so many great photos. So it was a real honour to be able to... to do that. It was a lot of fun. [PHILIP MORRIS] Yeah, it was. [JEFF APTER] We actually had built into our contract... Our agreement was an understanding that we would never work in a boring situation.

There is a huge quantity of information about Clint Eastwood his life and career on numerous websites, books etc. We focus mainly on his connection to The Everly Brothers and in particular to Phil Everly plus brief overview of his career. American film actor, director, producer, composer and politician. Eastwood first came to prominence as a supporting cast member in the TV series Rawhide (1959–1965). He rose to fame for playing the Man with No Name in Sergio Leone’s Dollars trilogy of spaghetti westerns (A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly) during the 1960s, and as San Francisco Police Department Inspector Harry Callahan in the Dirty Harry films (Dirty Harry, Magnum Force, The Enforcer, Sudden Impact and The Dead Pool) during the 1970s and 1980s. These roles, along with several others in which he plays tough-talking no-nonsense police officers, have made him an enduring cultural icon of masculinity. Eastwood won Academy Awards for Best Director and Producer of the Best Picture, as well as receiving nominations for Best Actor, for his work in the films Unforgiven (1992) and Million Dollar Baby (2004). These films in particular, as well as others including Play Misty for Me (1971), The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), Pale Rider (1985), In the Line of Fire (1993), The Bridges of Madison County (1995) and Gran Torino (2008), have all received commercial success and critical acclaim.
