It‟s a laid back, country influenced, „contemporary pop‟ album which I found very tasteful AUSTRALIAN and enjoyable. NASHVILLE I finally managed to track down these two albums, from 2007 and 2009. Joe has come up with two sets which showcase his super (mainly) acoustic guitar playing. More than a nod to Chet, Merle & Co., many of the tracks remind me of early Tommy Emmanuel, who 1 actually guests on “Bergeson Fries”. There are lots of NIMBLE BONES - EVERTON PARK / STAR SPANGLED guitar tricks, like harmonics, jazzy solos, fast pickin‟ BANNER - STAR SPANGLED BANNER / SAILING - STAR moody pieces and other „technical stuff‟. Very good SPANGLED BANNER / MR. MEAN MOUTH - LOBBY indeed. Most of the vocals are, well, forgettable. Before starting, I want to say I was really fortunate to be able to work with Philip on this book. [Jeff Apter holds up a coffee table book] [JEFF APTER] And it was one of the more interesting exercises, wasn't it? Because we were given a directive to come up with... Was it 200 photos? ..for this book. [PHILIP MORRIS] That's right. [JEFF APTER] And Philip's archive is so fantastic and so rich, that I think we got it down to, what, 600? [PHILIP MORRIS] Yeah. [Audience laughs] [JEFF APTER] Was it 600 to start with? It was something like that. And it's staggering, really. It's a really great document of Australian rock history at a really interesting turning point. So to get it down to this... It's begging for a second edition, by the way.
