Photography / assignment to obtain field based stories

Work location: includes Dawei and surrounding areas, Bhamo, and Shan State

Duration: Ad Hoc basis between February – April, October & November 2017

World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Myanmar) is looking for a photographer / videographer to commission for obtaining multiple field based stories on the theme of threats to Myanmar’s forests and wildlife.

1. Background Information

WWF- Myanmar works to halt the loss of the country’s extraordinary biodiversity, and to ensure that human use of the country’s natural resources is sustainable and equitable. WWF-Myanmar was established in 2013 as part of the Greater Mekong Programme. WWF-Myanmar’s Conservation Plan is founded on implementing a ‘Green Economy’ approach in policy decisions, natural resource management and in sectors such as infrastructure and energy. WWF-Myanmar is working to address the unsustainable economic activity that is a major driver of environmental degradation.

2. Background of photography/ videography assignment

The objective of the commission is to document the threats to Myanmar’s forests and wildlife and the work of WWF and partners to combat these threats. The focus will be on telling stories through photographs, and short anecdotes of individuals. The photographer / videographer will produce material to support strong digital features including photo essays, and website feature stories. The photographer/videographer is encouraged to capture interesting or unique images even if they don’t necessarily fall into the scope of the commission. As the focus is on story-telling and documenting the landscape and people, WWF is looking for a creative, insightful photographer / videographer to produce a strong portfolio.

The photos and video footages from the commissioned trip will be used for non-commercial purpose in TV broadcasting, public screening, publications, websites and social media for promoting WWF’s work, with proper attribution to the photographer / videographer.

A detailed brief per field story will be provided.

4. Deliverables

The photographer / videographer will deliver photos, videos including interviews and notes on locations and interviewees in the required formats within fifteen days of the completion of each commission.

4.1 Minimum 20 best edited and 40 second best unedited Digital Images in high resolution JPEG format delivered with shared copyright ownerships between WWF and the Photographer / Videographer throughout the World.

4.2 A 3-5 minute HD quality video per brief including translation based on WWF signed off

4.3 Raw footage of video undertaken in the field

4.4 Interviews with story focal points – translated

4.5 Any appropriate signed Model or Property Release Forms, if a person or a private property was mainly highlighted in the photograph, shall be delivered with the Images and Caption Information.

5. Expected Profile

• Previous experience in undertaking photo / video assignment for an organisation with demonstrated attractive professional portfolio. • Understanding of local context and developments in the project area (understanding local language is a benefit but not essential) • Well equipped with professional grade photography / videography equipment • Proven post production experience creating photo and video stories • Demonstrate an understanding of the communication requirements of a non-profit organization • Good understanding of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms

6. Travel

The Photographer/videographer is generally expected to be accompanied by WWF field staff during the trip under WWF-Myanmar’s arrangements.

7. Insurance

WWF does not provide any insurance coverage for its commissioned Photographers / Videographers and cannot be held responsible for any accident to the person of the Photographer / Videographer nor to his/her equipment (hired or otherwise). Insurance for accidents, medical expenses, theft, or other purposes is the responsibility of the Photographer / Videographer. The fees paid by WWF are intended to permit the Photographer / Videographer to take out appropriate insurance coverage in their own name if they wish to do so. There shall be no claim by the Photographer / Videographer, his/her heirs, executors, administrators, successors or other legal representatives with respect to any compensation or expenses incurred in relation to health, travel, injury, or loss of life during the period of the fulfilment of this photographic commissioned.

8. Payment of Fees

A total payment will only be made in full by WWF-Myanmar to the Photographer / Videographer upon satisfactory receipt of all agreed deliverables. No further fees will be due to the Photographer / Videographer.

8.1.1 20% of this fee will be made in advance to the Photographer upon agreement of this contract to help cover initial costs.

8.1.2 The remaining fees will be made to the Photographer within sixty days of the satisfactory Delivery of both Images and comprehensive and complete Caption Information from the Photographer to WWF.

9. Expenses

Upon the satisfactory completion of the commission and the satisfactory delivery of deliverable, WWF will reimburse the Photographer for an economy class return flight by the most direct route to the airport nearest the Commission destination; any necessary economy rated land based travel to the destination of the Commission; economy rated accommodation; and reasonable food and subsistence requirements upon receipt of a final financial report detailing actual expenditures substantiated by original vouchers, receipts, airline tickets or bills.
