Choosing a new Church Management Software (ChMS) can be a daunting task. Today there are more than 200 software providers in the marketplace, offering cloud-based subscription service or fee for license solutions. How can you find the right ChMS for your ministry? Features alone don’t tell the story: In fact, it’s possible for a ChMS to contain too many features (the dreaded “software bloat” so common in many markets) or features so complicated it would require an IT degree in order to use them effectively.

When ACS Technologies set out to build Realm several years ago, it was not because churches lacked church management software options. Church software technology was at a crossroads, and as one of the early originators of the church management software space, ACS has always felt the responsibility to lead. They recently felt it was time to reevaluate their approach, and set out to create something that would connect church staff to their ministry in new and innovative ways. Without intentional bridges to real life, software can feel impersonal. It’s often seen according to its function, not impact. ACS attempts to change that approach: Its product, Realm, impacts real ministry in three ways: spiritually, operationally and relationally. First, Realm equips churches to disciple their church family. The ACS approach believes that discipleship requires effective administration. It involves knowing more about the people who are involved and coordinating the multiple moving parts of ministry. Realm covers all the ChMS bases like small groups, check-in, events, giving and member management, but doesn’t stop there. For example, it created a feature called Pathways to help churches manage the touchpoints and workflows of key processes like membership or leadership training. Secondly, Realm elegantly handles the operational aspects of ministry. It provides a full spectrum of modern giving tools to congregants and equips the week church-wide and among small groups.
