    Wystawa jest efektem współpracy PAN Archiwum w Warszawie i Muzeum Harcerstwa w Warszawie, w których zbiorach znajduje się spuścizna pozostała po- druhu Aleksandrze Kamińskim „Kamyku”. Główny bohater ekspozycji został pokazany w powiązaniu z harcerskimi funda mentami, czyli przyrzeczeniem i prawemPrzyrzeczenia harcerskim, harcerskiegooraz z pionierami polskiego- harcerstwa. Wydaje się, że postaci harcerza nie sposób przedstawiać w oderwaniu od- ideologii i ruchu harcerskiego. Stąd tekst , od którego roz poczęła się harcerska droga Aleksandra Kamińskiego, umieszczono na planszy tytu- łowej otwierającej wystawę. Z kolei następnym dziesięciu planszom odpowiadają punkty prawa harcerskie- go, do których nawiązują wybrane materiały archiwalne w postaci dokumentów aktowych i fotografii. Ich zadaniem jest zaprezentowanie dziejów polskiego skau tingu do 1945 roku — a w jego tle osoby druha „Kamyka”, który sam był jego częścią. Na planszach występują postacie symbole, takie jak Olga i Andrzej Małkowscy, Tadeusz Strumiłło czy Jerzy Braun, ale także mniej znani jako harcerze, a bardziej jako- uczeni: historyk sztuki Juliusz Starzyński czy biochemik Tadeusz Wacław Korzybski,- który wyodrębnił pierwszy polski preparat penicyliny. Przedstawione dokumen- ty przywołują pamięć „obrońców naszych polskich granic” — bohaterskich Lwow- skich Orląt i młodych żołnierzy Szarych Szeregów. Możemy zobaczyć, jak nasi harce rze stawali się częścią międzynarodowej wspólnoty harcerskiej, uczestnicząc w zlo- tach skautowych. Na wystawie znalazły się także materiały ukazujące lwowskie początki polskiego skautingu. Kwerenda archiwalna, ale także zupełnie nieoczeki wane i przypadkowe odkrycia pozwoliły wyłuskać prawdziwe harcerskie „perełki”.- Unikatowa jest książka służbowa ZHP druha Juliusza Starzyńskiego, którą otrzymał- jako harcerz 10. Lwowskiej Drużyny Harcerskiej w 1920 roku. Dużą wartość doku mentacyjną mają fotografie 1. Mławskiej Drużyny Harcerzy im. Księcia Józefa Ponia 1 towskiego, która była najstarszą drużyną harcerzy w Chorągwi Mazowieckiej.

Celem inicjatorów wydania książki jest zachowanie zawartych tam treści i rozpowszechnianie ich za pośrednictwem bibliotek. Jest to wydanie niskonakładowe i nie komercyjne. Dowództwo Armii Krajowej zakładało, że Armii Czerwonej zależeć będzie, ze względów strategicznych, na szybkim zajęciu Warszawy. Przewidywano, że kilkudniowe walki zostaną zakończone przed wejściem do miasta sił sowieckich. Oczekiwano również pomocy ze strony aliantów. Opanowanie miasta przez AK przed nadejściem Armii Czerwonej i wystąpienie w roli gospodarza przez władze Polskiego Państwa Podziemnego w imieniu rządu RP na uchodźstwie, miało być atutem w walce o niezależność wobec ZSRR. Liczono na to, że ujawnienie się w Warszawie władz cywilnych związanych z Delegaturą Rządu na Kraj będzie szczególnie istotne w związku z powołaniem przez komunistów Polskiego Komitetu Wyzwolenia Narodowego. Premier Stanisław Mikołajczyk, udający się pod koniec lipca 1944 r. na rozmowy ze Stalinem, liczył, iż ewentualny wybuch Powstania w stolicy wzmocni jego pozycję negocjacyjną. Opinii premiera nie podzielał Naczelny Wódz gen. Kazimierz Sosnkowski, który uważał, że w zaistniałej sytuacji zbrojne powstanie pozbawione jest politycznego sensu i w najlepszym przypadku zmieni jedną okupację na drugą. W depeszy do dowódcy AK, gen. Sosnkowski pisał: „W obliczu szybkich postępów okupacji sowieckiej na terytorium kraju trzeba dążyć do zaoszczędzenia substancji biologicznej narodu w obliczu podwójnej groźby eksterminacji”.

    Batalionowy Armia Krajowa Page THE WARSAW UPRISING The Warsaw Uprising began on 1 August 1944 and lasted for 63 long days. The Armia Krajowa (Polish Home Army) fought long and hard to overthrow the German occupation of the Polish capital. While the Soviets looked on, merely yards away, the German army executed a savage repression of the insurrection. Warsaw would remain in German control until January 1945. In response to the uprising, Hitler ordered the complete destruction of the Polish capital. During the course of the uprising an estimated 200,000 Polish civilians were killed during reprisal operations in places like Wola and Ochota. Estimates of civilians killed in Wola during 5-6 August range from 30,000 to 40,000, the worst single battlefield atrocity committed in Europe during WWII. Ultimately the Warsaw Uprising failed to secure a free Polish state, but the sacrifices of the men and women who lived and died in Warsaw, and indeed all of Poland, have been honoured to this day. It is important to pause a moment and remember those heroes that stood against evil for betterment of humanity. IMPORTANT! Battlefront understands that German units and formations in Warsaw were partly or entirely responsible for various war crimes and atrocities during the time of WWII.
