The Food Program is one of Islamic Relief’s major relief programmes. In 1995, IR’s aid initiative began with shipments of relief products to Grozny which eased some of the people’s suffering. Nevertheless, food shortages, among other problems faced by Chechen IDPs, continue to remain one of the major concerns faced by IDPs in the current crisis.

IR currently distributes monthly supplementary food parcels. The distributions are carried out in the camps of Spoutnik and Alina.

IR started its Healthcare Program in Ingushetia in 2000. Since January 2000 IR has been running policlinics in the ”Alina” and “Sputnik” camps and has launched a new one in the “Bella” camp in December 2001. The clinics “Alina” and “Sputnik” are identical: each has 5 consulting rooms, 1 procedural room, a boiler-house and 2 attached ambulances. In the clinic “Bella" there are two consulting rooms, 1 procedure room and a medicine store. The policlinics are open 24 hours a day. Since January 2002 the Medical Programs in Spoutnik and Alina have been sponsored by CAFOD (Catholic Fund for Overseas Development), and the policlinic “Bella” is funded by HCI (Human Concern International)-Canada.
