A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to these scholastically talented seniors. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the competition for Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2015 Merit Program by taking the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. A spokesperson for National Merit Scholarship Corporation commented, “The young men and women named Com- mended Students have demonstrated outstanding academic potential by their performance in the very competitive Merit Program. In a nation that values excellence, it is important to publicly recognize the attainments of scholas- tically talented young people and the schools that nurture their development. We hope this recognition will help broaden the educational opportunities of Commended Students and serve as encouragement to all students to devel- op their abilities to the fullest.” 2 Bow High School Principal’s Report - October, 2014 This month’s Principal’s Report includes reports from four separate areas of Bow High School: School Counseling, Athletics, Learning Commons, and School to Career.
