Onesimo Konyi Venansio, will be visiting the Diocese of Winona-Rochester in July and will be celebrating with our St. Columbanus-Sacred Heart-Holy Trinity parish communities on the weekend of July 20 & 21, 2019 to speak about the many ministries of the Archdiocese of Juba South Sudan. It has been in the news and you may have seen it…South Sudan voted for independence from the radical Muslim North 2011. There was hope in this … but two years after triumphantly breaking away from Sudan and becoming the world’s newest nation, South Sudan plunged into a civil war that has been called one of the most destructive conflicts of the 21st century. Five years of fighting, mass killing, looting, rapes and other atrocities have destabilized the nation of over 12 million. Almost 4 million south Sudanese have been internally displaced, with half of them seeking refuge in neighboring nations to avoid being caught in the crossfire. The conflict erupted in December 2013, when president Salva Kiri and his vice Riek Macher, fallout let to estimates that at least 382,000 people have died because of the conflict. Juba Archdiocese finds itself in a critical juncture, as nearly five years of conflict have left a devastating impact. Yet in spite of the staggering challenges in South Sudan capital of Juba, the Archdiocese still see a nation thirsty for spiritual growth and the sacrament to be administer. The Archdiocese remain committed to God’s call to care for those entrusted to her care. The priests and Religious of the Archdiocese of Juba remains central to restoring hope for the Christian community of the Archdiocese. Their compassionate care for the Christian community is the face of the church to the world. Civil war and food insecurity in South Sudan are causing havoc. The priests and the religious of the Archdiocese need food and the basics to let them carry their mission. There are not enough Christian community members available with the necessary resources to care for this local church. In thanksgiving for the generous hearts of our Christian community in the world especially here in USA the Archbishop is able to support each priest with $. 100. 00 (One hundred dollar) a month feeding money to enable them to carry their mission. These men and women serve in some of the most difficult areas of the world. You are the hands of the Lord in ministering to his suffering church in the Archdiocese of Juba, South Sudan. The second collection will go towards the Church in the Archdiocese of Juba. Saint Isidore and Saint Maria Months ago when asked about the name of the newly formed cluster for Holy Trinity-Litomysl, Sacred Heart- Hayfield, St. Mary’s-Rural Geneva and St. Columbanus- Blooming Prairie, my response was simply the name al- ready exists among us. One unifying factor that I point- ed out early on in the realignment of parishes process was the local Knights of Columbus council. Our local council is named for St. Isidore the Farmer. This also happens to have been the name of the school that was located at Holy Trinity-Litomysl. The previous cluster title was named Mary, Mother of Mercy after the Blessed Mother and the process of consolidation that coincided with the Jubilee Year of Mercy taking place in 2016. It seems natural in keeping with the unity already found in our rural area where family life has deep roots that we as Catholics would be able to call upon the interces- sion of St. Isidore and his wife St. Maria de la Cabe- Saint Isidore the farmer and his wife, Maria Torribia za. The SS. Isidore and Maria Catholic Cluster is named with the Holy Angels for these patron saints of farmers. As found on the by Joseph von Führich (1800-1876); circa 1830 Catholic Rural Life website, “Isidore was born in 1070 to a peasant family near Madrid, Spain. He was baptized ‘Isidore’ in honor of the famous archbishop of Seville, Spain. Isidore the farmer was actually a day laborer, working on the farm of the wealthy John de Vergas at Tor- relaguna, just outside Madrid. He married a poor girl, Maria Torribia. Their only child, a son, died in infan- cy. The couple took a vow of chastity to serve God. Isidore’s life is a model of simple Christian charity and faith. He prayed while at work. He shared what he had with the poor, even his meals. He often gave them more than Saint Isidore and Saint Maria continued on page 3 2 WELCOME TO THE SS. From the Gusset Happy Easter! Imagine your health was so bad that you could no longer make a pilgrimage to Church to celebrate the Sunday Mass. Forced to stay at home, you could no longer dip your finger into the Holy water font, kneel in a pew, and praise and adore God through the Mass responses with your Church Community. This is the life of the elderly and the homebound of our parishes. With the pandemic, God has given us a unique opportunity to feel compassion for those who are sick or elderly M we have the unique opportunity to be in solidarity with them M to pray for them and make a spiritual communion alongside of the homebound. The laugh is on the Devil. He thought the Coronavirus would make us fall out of love with our Parish Community, and here the pandemic (through the Mystery of God’s grace) is drawing us closer together. With the Bishop’s dispensation from attending Sunday Mass M we are still asked to make Sunday holy by watching Mass on TV or the internet or at least reading the Scriptures of the Sunday Mass and of course making a spiritual communion. Although we can exercise our freedom to watch the Mass on EWTN or a Bishop Barron podcast or even the Holy Father’s Mass in Rome M although you could fulfill your Mass obligation in any number of ways, I am highly recommending that you watch our Parishes’ Mass on our website: www.olphmarystpatrick.com.

Catholic Liturgical Calendar January 1, 2018 through December 31, 2018 FOR THE DIOCESES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 2018 ⚭ † ☧ 2 JANUARY 2018 1 Mon SOLEMNITY OF MARY, THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD white Rank I The Octave Day of the Nativity of the Lord Solemnity [not a Holyday of Obligation] Nm 6:22-27/Gal 4:4-7/Lk 2:16-21 (18) Pss Prop Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God (Theotokos) The Octave Day of the Nativity of the Lord Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God (Theotokos) “From most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been venerated under the title ‘God- bearer’(Theotokos)” (Lumen Gentium, no. 66). All of the Churches recall her memory under this title in their daily Eucharistic prayers, and especially in the annual celebration of Christmas. The Virgin Mary was already venerated as Mother of God when, in 431, the Council of Ephesus acclaimed her Theotokos (God-bearer). As the Mother of God, the Virgin Mary has a unique position among the saints, indeed, among all creatures. She is exalted, yet still one of us. Redeemed by reason of the merits of her Son and united to Him by a close and indissoluble tie, she is endowed with the high office and dignity of being the Mother of the Son of God, by which account she is also the beloved daughter of the Father and the temple of the Holy Spirit. Because of this gift of sublime grace she far surpasses all creatures, both in heaven and on earth. At the same time, however, because she belongs to the offspring of Adam she is one with all those who are to be saved.
