Cyprus Geological Survey 65 years of public service Scope of study •This study will develop a digital soil properties map of Cyprus, at 1:50,000 scale. •The soil physical properties which the map will provide are texture, depth, water holding capacity •Use Correlation and Regression Training for predictive mapping •Use existing topographical and soils data and integrate new geological, geochemical, geomorphological, geochronological, ecological and remote sensed data Random Forest Workflow 1. Initial Analysis of Existing Mapped Areas Random Forest Runs GIS Analyses 2. Extrapolation of Rule Sets to Unmapped Areas Random Forest Runs Ground Truthing 3.     MORTUARY PRACTICES IN LC CYPRUS A Comparative Study Between Tombs at Hala Sultan Tekke and Other LC Bronze Age Sites in Cyprus Marcus Svensson Supervisor: Lovisa Brännstedt Master’s Thesis in Classical Archaeology and Ancient History Spring 2020 Department of Archaeology and Ancient History Lund University Abstract This thesis investigates differences and similarities in the funerary material of Late Bronze Age Cyprus in order to answer questions about a possible uniqueness of the pit/well tombs at the Late Bronze Age harbour city of Hala Sultan Tekke. The thesis also tries to explain why these features stand out as singular, compared to the more common chamber tomb, and the reason for their existence. The thesis concludes that although no direct match to the pit/well tombs can be found in Cyprus, there are features that might have had enough similarities to be categorised as such, but since the documentation methods of the time were too poor one cannot say for certain. The thesis also gives an explanation of why not more of these features appear in the funerary material in Cyprus, and the answer is simply that the pit/well tombs were not considered to be tombs but wells. Furthermore, direct parallels to the pit/well tombs can be found on mainland Greece, first and foremost at the south room of the North Megaron of the Cyclopean Terrace Building at Mycenae but also at the Athenian Agora. Archaeologists working elsewhere often identify especially nice (or especially odd) pottery as coming from Cyprus. By adding more vessels (and photos and break photos and thin-sections) to the LCP, you ensure the accuracy of more of those identifications. Currently, there are 9674 vessels on the LCP, of which just 451 (4.6%) are from Cyprus. Come on Cyprus: help the rest of us! The LCP gives you a platform to grapple with – and get a handle on – your pottery, while allowing you to incorporate earlier research. It can help you figure out how to think about your pottery and refine your ideas. It’s also low-stakes: when (not if!) you change your mind, you can edit your entries, add more information, change associations, etc. The LCP can direct other people to your work – and to you! Users may find an example, see a bibliographic citation and/or contributor name – and then click on your name and send an email. The LCP helps us build and expand our scholarly network. The LCP helps you learn about new information quickly. Krentos SUMMARY Carrots have been an important export crop since the mid 1950s but the course of theindustly in production, price of the produce and exports has been rather enatic. The crop is sown in November and harvested in April through June. Before 1974 carrot growing was concentrated in the Argaki-Katokopia-Zodhia area. The eight experiments reported here were carried out in this area over the period 1968-71, and tested the combinations of four rates of N (0.63, 126. and 189 kgha) and four rates of P (0.23,46,and 69 kgiha). As a result of previous fertilizer P application. all experimental soils but one tested more than 8 ppm Olsen P. The test variety was Chantenay but in the last experiment Nantes was also included. In sir out of the eight experiments N increased yield significantly, and 63 to 1'26 kg Niha was required for maximum yield. By contrast only in one experiment in which the soil tested a mere 1 ppm Olsen P was yield increased by fertilizer P up to the rate of 46 kg Piha. The increase in yield due to N application was accompanied by a coincident increase in the percentage of exportable yield but at the highest N rate (189 kg Nha) percent exportable yield slightly declined. The dry matter content and the N,P and K contents of the roots were not influenced by either N or P fertilizing.
