Burbank, California March 1, 2016 - In June, Los Angeles will be host to a historic event: the Los Angeles & USA debut of one of the most famous rumba flamenco groups of all time – Chico and the Gypsies. This evening of Rumba Flamenca will be taking place at the Starlight Bowl Amphitheater in Burbank. The founder and namesake of Chico and the Gypsies – Chico Bouchikhi – has been creating music for most of his life. Growing up in France, Chico was raised playing the guitar, and much of his music is influenced by his time spent within the local gypsy culture during his youth. As a child, Chico spend a large portion of his time with the family of Jose Reyes – one of the most famous gypsy guitarists of the time. Together, Chico and several members of the Reyes family formed The Gypsy Kings (initially called Los Reyes). The group traveled around Europe, performing for the rich, famous, and even royal. They gained an international following of dedicated fans, and became for the French group to go platinum in the US. In the late 1980's, due to internal disagreements, Chico left the group. In the 1990's, however, he formed Chico and the Gypsies. The group has since released several massively successful albums, and has become the top name in flamenco music. While the group members have changed, Chico's talent for creating stunning music remains constant. It is true that his music is rooted in flamenco, but the group takes influence from a myriad of genres. Their diversity of influence is what allows them to create a sound that is distinctly their own. Another constant for Chico is the love of his audience. The group consists of eight members and their individual guitars, playing together to create the intricate and intoxicating music that has captivated audiences for years. The group has united audiences across culture, class, and creed in appreciation for their music. The band's love and joy in playing is infectious, and always provides for an unforgettable audience experience. Songs such as Allegria, Bamboleo, Djobi Djora, Ben Ben Maria, and many more, have proved to be favorites, both recorded and in live performance. What better venue for this highly anticipated performance than the Starlight Bowl? The venue provides a feeling of intimacy while in a spacious, open-air environment. The ability to bring your own food, and the availability of beverages on premises, assures a relaxed, fun evening under the stars in Los Angeles' beautiful weather. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

    Chico & The Gypsies poursuivent leur tournée en 2020 en retrouvant sur scène les anciens et historiques des Gipsy Kings lors des concerts : Pablo Reyes et Canut Reyes. Après le succès de la tournée de 2019, Chico & The Gypsies jouent les prolongations. Ils repartent sillonner les routes et posent leurs guitares une nouvelle fois aux quatre coins du pays pour une fiesta inoubliable ! Un concert événement à ne pas manquer ! Nouvel Album : Novembre 2019 BEST OF (novembre 2019) Chico, ex-leader et fondateur des Gipsy Kings, fait partie des légendes de la musique. Avec plus de 30 disques d’or et 10 de platine, co-auteur et compositeur de titres planétaire tels que Bamboleo, Djobi Djoba, Marina, Volare, etc… Depuis plus de 25 ans, et avec plus de 20 millions de disques vendus, Chico et son groupe « Chico & The Gypsies » font danser la planète entière ! Dès la fin des années 70, Brigitte Bardot fait de ce groupe, symbole de la fête, ses musiciens fétiches, animateurs de ses anniversaire avec qui elle aimait danser sur les plages ou chez des amis. Les invitations pour animer des soirée privées dans des pays dont ils ne soupçonnaient même pas l’existence se succédèrent… Les Gypsies dépassèrent ainsi les limites de Saint-Tropez pour aller amuser les rois, les princes et les grandes vedettes du show-biz partout dans le monde, avec au bout, l’énorme succès que tout le monde connaît. 1991/92 le groupe « Gipsy Kings» éclate, Chico remonte un groupe « Chico & The Gypsies » et reprend la route… En septembre 1994, à Oslo, les Nations Unies invitent « Chico & The Gypsies » avec Harry Belafonte et Montserrat Caballé, pour jouer et célébrer le premier anniversaire du traité de paix en présence de Shimon Peres et Yasser Arafat.
