Position Title: Specialist 3 for Chemical Dependency, Substance Abuse Prevention and Recovery House Living Institution: Case Western Reserve U. Department: University Counseling Services and its divisions of Collegiate Behavioral Health & Prevention and Recovery Services Position Description: POSITION OBJECTIVE Working under limited supervision, the specialist in chemical dependency and substance abuse participates in the delivery of services and programs provided by University Counseling Services (UCS) and Prevention and Recovery Services (PRS) to the undergraduate, graduate and professional school students of Case Western Reserve University, Institute of Art (CIA), Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), The Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine (KSUCPM) and the /Case Lerner College of Medicine. The specialist is a member of the UCS professional staff which includes psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and certified alcohol and substance abuse counselors who work cooperatively to provide quality substance abuse and mental health services to our community. This position reports directly to one of the Associate directors of the UCS and also has important relationships with the professional staff of Housing Residence Life and Greek Life (HRLGL), University Health Services, and the University Office of Student Affairs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Provide individual and group drug and alcohol services for students with substance-related addictive disorders, including assessment, intervention, treatment, case management, and education. 2. Develop treatment goals and means by which to measure patient progress and relapse prevention 3. Provide direct, evidence-based clinical and program services designed to promote various collegiate recovery activities including counseling recovery support groups; the med-student programs promoting awareness of alcohol or drug abuse in families; harm-reduction educational screening and experiences. 4. Consult and collaborate with student services professionals, i.e., University Office of Student Affairs, seeking clinical assessment, intervention and/or education of students at risk for substance abuse. Implement, oversee and compile data from screening measures assessing substance use and abuse within the UCS and participate in campus wide efforts to assess student’s use of harmful substances. 6. Manage UCS data regarding students at risk for substance abuse from the office of Student Affairs student conduct process when violations of the university’s standards of conduct are found to involve substance use. 7. Direct and oversee Prevention and Recovery Services (PRS) including, individualized student PRS Plans; UCS clinical and university program groups; and seek to broaden student involvement in PRS support activities on our campus. Work collaboratively to oversee the PRS budget. Oversee the daily activities of the PRS Recovery House, provide clinical supervision of assigned staff, and promote programs at the house to support collegiate recovery. 8. Serve as co-chair of the PRS Advisory Board (campus and community) and oversee its mission and objectives relating to the promotion of campus and community alliances to fight drug abuse. 9. Plan and participate in periodic PRS fundraising activities. 10. Conduct intake assessment of students with a range of mental health needs from developmental to depression, anxiety, thought disorders, and personality disorders. 11. Provide direct clinical services to students at the UCS’ primary location (Sears Library 220) and University Health Service (UHS) satellite locations. 12. Write timely clinical reports within our electronic medical record system and adhere to federal and state laws governing the privacy rights of our students. 13. Participate in the UCS On-Call Crisis Intervention Team with other UCS licensed professional staff. 14. Educate and provide chemical dependency assessment, intervention training and consultation to the UCS and UHS staff for enhancing their diagnostic and treatment skills. See link below for more:

Salary: commensurate with experience Start Date: 8/22/15 Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS  Experience: 4 years of professional experience in mental health/substance abuse care, preferably within a university setting.  Education/Licensing: Master’s degree in clinical social work required or Doctorate (PhD or Psy D) in clinical, counseling, health psychology, social work or related field.
