The next generation of matrix acidizing
CASE STUDY
Beaverhill Lake Group Limestone - Oil Swan Hills South / Judy Creek Field, Alberta, Canada CS004‐2018
Introduction: The XX-XX-065-10W5 Beaverhill Lake Group vertical pumping oil well was successfully treated utilizing StimStixx Technologies’ proprietary wireline conveyed acid stimulation tools on May 31, 2018. The well was put on production in 1964 with a stabilized IP of 18 bbl/d, and has been on a steady and predictable decline since 1980. The average production from 2010-2018 was approximately 5 bbl/d and within the last year (2017 and 2018), there was a clear change in well decline with production decreasing steadily to 1 bbl/d in April 2018. The operator suspected scaling issues across the zone of interest, and the objective to increase oil inflow was met by the StimStixx treatment.
Production Summary: Fluid (bbl/d) Oil (bbl/d) Water Cut Pre-Treatment - Apr 2018 2.2 1 56% Post-Treatment - Aug 2018 35.7 9.1 74% (3 Months) Change 16X 9X
Treatment Description: This well has 9.0m of perforations spread across 4 perforation intervals. Due to an obstruction in the casing, StimStixx was only able to stimulate the top 2 intervals (5.2m). Treatment of these intervals consisted of three (3) runs using two (2) MatrixStixx HCL tools and one (1) ImplosionStixx tool to stimulate the near wellbore, remove scale, clay fines and other debris.
Results Discussion: The treatment using both the MatrixStixx HCL and ImplosionStixx tools resulted in total fluid rates not seen since 2004, and oil rates not seen since January 2014. This successful treatment was achieved while only stimulating 5.2m (out of 9.0m) of net pay, which exceeded the expectations of the operator.
