10:15 am: This Gun for Hire (1942) Alan Ladd stars with noir siren Veronica Lake in this suspenseful tale about a hit man on the lam.

11:45 am: He Walked by Night (1948) Anthony Mann was one of the masters of low-budget noir, as evidenced by this taut thriller starring Richard Basehart.

Lunch break Noir trivia with prizes donated by Laughing Ogre Comics!

1:45 pm: Murder, My Sweet (1944) Dick Powell plays private dick Philip Marlowe in this atmospheric mystery based on a Raymond Chandler novel. Claire Trevor costars.

3:30 pm: The Narrow Margin (1952) In this quintessential thrill ride, a witness is the target of ruthless killers on board a cross country train.

Register to win a DVD set of noir classics! Get a ticket for each film you attend; stay the whole day to increase your chances. Drawing held following the final film.

Kids Events 17 Early Literacy Tips

Go on a nature walk with your child and collect different leaves. 1 Consult a leaf book so you can identify the type of leaf! Take a trip to an apple orchard or pumpkin patch. Pick some treats to take home and browse a few cookbooks for recipe ideas. Caramel apples and baked pumpkin seeds are 2 especially easy to make! Make a list of fall-themed chores, such as raking leaves. Create a chore chart where your child can either star or check off the chores as they finish them. 3 Don’t forget to jump in the leaves once you have raked them into piles!

Build your own scarecrow with some old clothes. Put him up in your yard, give him a name and create a backstory for him. Where 4 is he from? What kinds of adventures has he had?

Help your child create a list of all the things they are thankful for to share at Thanksgiving dinner. Bonus if 5 the list includes illustrations!

Kids Events 18 Early Literacy Backpacks Help your child get ready for Kindergarten by borrowing an Early Learning Backpack! 31 backpacks from the Early Childhood Resource Center are available to borrow from the library, thanks to a $2,139 grant from the Grandview Heights/ Marble Cliff Education Foundation.
