Participate in the 2008 NIKE Manchester United Premier Cup US Finals! Participate in the 2008 NIKE Manchester United Premier Cup U.S. Finals! The most competitive U14/15 tournament in the world! May 22-26, 2008 at NIKE World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon! The Manchester United Premier Cup (MUPC) is the largest and most competitive international youth soccer tournament in the world. The MUPC has had some of the most storied soccer clubs in the world participate, including clubs such as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Ajax, Arsenal, Corinthians, Futbol Club America, FC Porto and, of course, Manchester United. In the U.S., the MUPC U.S. Finals has drawn the most competitive U14 and U15 teams across the nation, and, as a result, U.S. Soccer has taken notice. Over the past 10 years US Soccer staff coaches have been on hand at the tournament to scout players for the National Team programs. Many players who participated in the MUPC U.S. Finals have gone on to play for the U.S. National Teams and various professional teams. In fact, many players that were part of the recent U17 National Team historic victory over Brazil at the NIKE Friendlies participated in the MUPC. Format for 2008 : • 32 teams per gender (64 total) from across the U.S. will participate (more teams this year)! • The tournament host (Lake Oswego SC) will have 1 team in each gender participate. Next to this, three (3), possibly four (4), other teams per gender will receive automatic bids. These automatic bids will come from the winners of the U14 age categories in each gender of the following tournaments: 1. U.S. Club Soccer National Cup – End of July, 2007. 2. Jefferson Cup – Richmond, VA – March 15-16, 2008 (for boys) and March 29-30, 2008 (for girls). Visit www.strikerstournaments.com/jeffcupmain.htm for more info. 3. Sockers FC Nike Classic Cup – Chicago, IL – April of 2008 (exact dates TBD). Visit www.sockersfcchicago.com for more info. 4. Real So Cal Copa Real – Thousand Oaks, CA – March 29-30, 2008. Visit http://e7sports3.com/orgs/realsocal/copareal_olders/ for more info. • Other teams will need to apply for the tournament and the best teams (determined by a tournament committee) from both genders that apply will be invited to participate. • Age group: Boys born on/after Jan. 1, 1993 and girls born on/after August 1, 1993. • The tournament will be open to teams that are official members of a USSF affiliate organization such as US Club Soccer or US Youth Soccer. All players, with the exception of 3 guest players, must be officially registered members of your club (new this year). Again, teams will only be allowed a maximum of 3 guest players for 2008. • Teams will play a minimum of 6 games over 4 days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday – May 25-28). Thursday, May 22, will be arrival and check-in. • Winner of the boys US Finals will qualify for the Manchester United Premier Cup World Finals to be held at a location to be determined later. The World Finals will most likely take place in mid-to-late July or early August. Exact dates will be confirmed later. • Winner of the girls US Finals will be invited to play in the 2008 Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden, July 13-20, 2008. • NIKE will invite and pay for airfare, accommodations, meals and transportation for up to 20 people per team for the MUPC World Finals for the boy’s winner, as well as the Gothia Cup for the girl’s winning team. • Application packages for the MUPC U.S. Finals will be available in the next couple of weeks. Please contact Euro- Sportring for an application package. Application packages will also be available online at Lake Oswego Soccer Club’s website: www.losc.org.
