Ihenacho MSc, University of Navarra, Spain, 1994 DVM, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, 1985 Dissertation Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Public Policy and Administration Walden University November 2018 Abstract Nonprofit organizations and the social services they provide have often engaged the attention of organizational scholars and practitioners. There is also a general perception of nonprofits as agents of social development in cases of public service failure. However, with the proliferation of many small nonprofits, their capacity for effective service delivery has been debated. Some have proposed cross-sector organizational partnerships (CSPs) as a means of assuring service effectiveness; however, such initiatives have been limited and not well understood in Nigeria. This study used a qualitative case study approach to focus on a CSP involving a nonprofit vocational training institute and 4 multinational companies in Nigeria. A purposeful sampling method was used, which emphasized participant experience and knowledge relevant to the study. Data were obtained from organizational records and participant interviews from a sample size of 10. An open-system theoretical lens was used as guide to answer the research question about the key elements of CSPs that support social service delivery by nonprofit organizations in Nigeria. Data analysis included coding, categorization, patterning, detailed description, and interpretation of the data. Categorical elements that increased institutional capacity of nonprofits or facilitated partnership management and government policy were found to be the key support to social service delivery. The results clarify links between CSP and social service delivery, and potentially aid synergy of action across sectors, in advancement of policy formulation and social service delivery. This study attempts to feel that gap. It present findings from the analysis of the influence of some socio-demographic variables like age, gender, marital status, education, occupation and religion on cyber crime victimization, using a sample of one thousand three hundred and fifty four (1354) internet-active Nigerians residing in Lagos metropolis. The study found that younger respondents, males, ever married respondents, respondents with higher level of education, unemployed respondents and Christians are more likely to fall victim of cyber crime.     Political Trust, Political Participation and Conflict A case study of the Boko Haram conflict in Nigeria Simeon Lauterbach May 2020 Abstract This paper studies how the Boko Haram insurgency affected political trust and political partic- ipation in Nigeria between 2009 and 2017. Using a synthetic control method and a difference- in-difference design, I argue that during the conflict individuals, who were exposed to violence displayed decreased levels of political trust in the president, the army and the police, but found that trust then increased in the direct aftermath of conflict. With regard to politi- cal participation my empirical results are somewhat ambivalent. I find some evidence that non-institutionalised forms of political participation (such as joining others to raise an issue) increased, while institutionalised forms (such as voting) decreased. Overall, this paper con- tributes to the existing literature by shedding light on the question how political and economic stability can be fostered in conflict-torn countries. Watts, Chair This work challenges the widely held controversial “greed and grievance” (resource curse) narrative by drawing critical insights about conflicts in the Niger Delta. The Niger Delta region of Nigeria has attracted substantial scholarly attention in view of the paradox of poverty and violence amidst abundant natural resources. This discourse suggests that persistent resource- induced conflicts in the region derive from either greed or grievance. Instead, the present work draws inspiration from the political geography of the Niger Delta, and puts the physical area at the center of its analysis. The understanding that the past and present history of a people is etched in their socio-political geography inspires this focus. Whereas existing literatures engages with the Niger Delta as a monolithic domain, my study takes a more nuanced approach, which recognizes a multiplicity of layers mostly defined by socio-geographical peculiarities of different parts of the region and specificity of conflicts its people experience.

Olomola Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER), Ibadan Paper Presented at the 29th Conference of the International Association of Agricultural Economists, University of Milan, Italy August 8-14, 2015 Abstract The food crisis of 2008 in Nigeria was influenced by price changes in the world market and the escalation of the price of imported fuel into Nigeria which led to sharp increases in the prices of agricultural inputs and transportation cost. The soaring prices of food staples benefited the producers whereas there was a worsening of malnutrition among the poor. To cushion the effects within the short-term, the government released grains from the reserve, ordered the import of half a million tonnes of rice to be sold at a subsidized rate and suspended the tariff on rice imports. The policy measures adopted caused a reversal of the trend of food price increase within six months, generated awareness about the nutritional importance of major food staples, and led to changes in preferences in the demand for food commodities and stimulated increased financing for commercial agriculture. This study sought to (i) examine the political economy issues surrounding the 2008 food price crisis, (ii) analyse the performance of the medium-term policies and strategies to prevent a recurrence of the 2008 episode and (iii) draw policy implications for price stability in the country. The study found that the country has not been under any threat of food crisis since the 2008 episode. Right from 2011, the medium-term policies and strategies were re- designed and entrenched as major components of the agricultural transformation agenda (ATA).
