Following the end of the Vietnam War, His Excellency, and his wife, Lan, left Vietnam in a boat in 1977. Travelling via Malaysia, they were one of the early groups of Vietnamese refugees to arrive in Darwin Harbour. His Excellency and Mrs Le soon settled in Adelaide, starting with three months at the Pennington Migrant Hostel. As his Tertiary study in Vietnam was not recognised in Australia, the Governor returned to study at the University of Adelaide, where he earned a degree in Economics and Accounting within a short number of years. In 2001, His Excellency’s further study earned him a Master of Business Administration from the same university.

    PROGRAM OF EVENTS CITY OF UNLEY ANZAC UNLEY REMEMBERS 1915-2015 CENTENARY PROGRAM 2015 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli and the centenary of formation of Unley’s 27th Battalion. This program acknowledges A year of respect, remembrance and celebration of these milestones and the birth of the ANZAC spirit. Through these events we aim those who served in World War I. to provide the community opportunities to reflect on and honour the service and sacrifice of all those who have worn our nation’s uniform, and to also acknowledge the support and sacrifice made by families and friends on the home front. The ANZAC centenary from 2014 to 2018 remembers 100 years since Australia’s involvement in the First World War. The Battle of Long Tan Although this year we commemorate the end of WW1 and it’s horrors, we must not for- get the other conflicts that have claimed Australian lives over the years. On 18th August 1966, 102 members of Delta Company 6 RAR fought a battle of over- whelming odds, against a vastly larger enemy force in a rubber plantation near the Viet- namese village of Long Tan. As a result of that battle 18 Australian soldiers died, and a further 24 were wounded. It wasn’t until Clearing Patrols sent out the following morning that the Australians realized the existent of their fight.

All proceeds from the Poppy Appeal allow the RSL to provide extensive support and assistance to the servicemen and women, their families and dependents who have served or are still in the service of our country.
