2 Welcome to Cascais

Dear participants,

„China is more assertive in the 21st century”. „China is on the rise”. „China is the world’s powerhouse.” Just look at the news: when China is the subject, the world hardly misses a cliché.

The fact is that China is an indispensable nation. If you want to forecast where the world is heading, you have to understand China. That’s why we all need a clear vision about China and its people and businesses. No one is in better position to share that knowledge than those who literally help to shape the country (and the world economy) in a daily basis: the Chinese business elite. Cascais is proud to host the „China Business Meeting” for the first time. Organized by Horasis: The Global Visions Community, the meeting calls more than 300 top executives for must go debate. I am sure it is poised to be a success. Why?

Reason nº1: as you all soon will understand, Cascais has always been a bridge between countries and cultures, peoples and ideas. As a plural territory, we are proud of being at the heart of crucial debates and boiling thoughts.

Reason nº2: Portugal and China have been friends for a long, long time. As two of the world’s oldest nations, we have seen a lot and we have learned a lot. However, we still have room to improve as we the last couple of years have shown.

Reason nº3: we are very much committed with Horasis mission. Horasis stands for sustainability for society. So do we. Horasis believes in a leadership with values and goodwill in life. So do we. Last, but not least, Horasis promotes the idea of sharing knowledge as the base of a common and more developed humanity. So do we. I could keep adding up reasons after reasons. But you will all very soon discover some extra more. A special thanks to Horasis for choosing us and trusting us.

Hope to see you soon in Cascais. Come and find out why we are widely considered the best place to live a day, a week or a lifetime.

Carlos Carreiras Mayor of Cascais
