The Munster Express/WLR fm 10 kilometre Fun Run, an event which attracted 1,000 entrants last year, will be held in city on Sunday, September 10th.

The south-east’s leading media brands are delighted to continue their co-sponsorship of the event, which has seen it go from strength to strength since their association commenced in 2001.

The course which runners and walkers have become familiar with in recent years has been retained for this year’s run, starting and finishing at the Waterford Regional Sports Centre.

The wheelchair competition will get underway at 11.50 am while runners and walkers will be up and running/walking once the starter’s gun fires at noon.

“The Fun Run is an event that we are delighted to be associated with,” said Munster Express Managing Director Kieran Walsh.

“Healthy living and striking the right work/life balance are increasingly prevalent topics in national and regional media. With that in mind, we’re very pleased to co-sponsor an event which encourages and highlights the importance of exercise and the benefits that come with regular exercise. That worthy causes also benefit from the day truly makes the Fun Run a great community occasion.”

WLR fm Chief Executive Des Whelan echoed such sentiments. “WLR fm is also delighted to continue our support of the Fun Run, which has become such a popular sporting and social event in Waterford.

“Thanks to the enthusiastic and hard working staff of both WLR fm and and through promotion of the event on the air, in print and online, we hope to attract even more runners and walkers for this year’s event. The more entrants we have, the more charities and good causes stand to benefit and that can only be a good thing.”

The entry fee for this year’s Fun Run is €10. Entry forms will be published weekly in the Munster Express and will also be available at its offices on the Quay. Forms can also be picked up at WLR fm from both the Broadcast Centre in Ardkeen and its studios.

Each Fun Run pack will include a race number, safety pins to affix the number onto your running vest as well as a copy of our rules. The forms will also be available online on www.munster- express.ie and www.wlrfm.com.

Local charities will benefit from monies raised through entries as well as the individual tallies raised by runners and walkers supporting charities and good causes of their own choice.

Between now and September 10th check out Dermot Keyes’s weekly Munster Express column and stay tuned to WLR fm for more details on the Fun Run, offering tips on getting ready for the big day.

For those attempting to run the 10 kilometre distance for the first time, a visit to the GP is recommended. And for those lacing up the runners after an extended break, the ‘softly softly’ approach is recommended during the first couple of weeks.

As has been the case in recent editions of the Fun Run, there will be no registration on the day, so get your entries into us good and early! Best of luck to all our runners and walkers and we look forward to seeing you at the RSC on September 10th.

The Munster Express/WLR fm 10 kilometre Fun Run operates under the rules of Athletics Ireland. Please note that prizes will be awarded to athletes aged 15 and over only. And remember you must be officially entered to be covered by race day insurance.
