Service Music List 2018 – 2019 Church of the Holy Communion Memphis, Tennessee Cover art is an icon of St. Thomas the Apostle, patron saint of construction workers. Reprinted by kind permission of the Orthodox Church in America, Fr. John Matusiak, OCA, webmaster. 2 usic has been a part of Memphis life from the beginning. Music is also an integral element of our worship at Church of the Holy Communion, weaving together the parts of our liturgy, making our M worship truly “the work of the people.” From rich Anglican choral anthems and chanted Psalms, from the sounds of children’s voices and the ringing of English handbells, from the simplicity of a Taizé chant accompanied by flute or violin, or from the authentic sounds of Celtic folk music, we offer music in praise of God, providing opportunities for all to share their talents. For older children we offer a choir using the Voice for Life training of The Royal School of Church Music in America. For younger children we offer a choir using Choristers Guild methods, which are rooted in the children’s music educational systems of Carl Orff and Zoltán Kodály, directed by a certified children’s music educator. Our two adult choirs are supported by professional staff singers, and we offer handbell ringing for adults. Join the ranks or enroll your child in choir, where he or she will learn to love the music and liturgy of the Church. Share your talents, whether great or small, with others in thanksgiving for the gifts God has given you. We will give you the tools and welcome you with open arms. DAVID PERRY OUZTS, D.S.M.
