Uma Rsd 2021 Information Sheet 1 UMA RSD 2021 INFORMATION SHEET 1 2 Artist: Amy Winehouse Title: Remixes Format: 2LP Coloured Limited edition coloured vinyl edition of a collection of Amy Winehouse remixes from Frank and Back To Black, for Record Store Day 2021. This 2LP set is pressed on 180 gram coloured vinyl – one LP blue, one yellow – and includes a digital download card. 1 UMA RSD 2021 INFORMATION SHEET 1 Artist: Art Of Noise Title: Who’s Afraid Of The Art Of Noise – Coloured Vinyl Format: 2LP A reissue of ‘Who’s Afraid of…?’, the debut album from pioneering British synth-pop act The Art of Noise, featuring Oscar and Grammy Award winning composer Anne Dudley and hugely successful producer Trevor Horn. ‘Who’s Afraid of..?’ was one of the first releases on the fledgling ZTT label in 1984 and has been unavailable on vinyl since it was repressed and repackaged in 1985. UMC will make it available on 180gm vinyl for Record Store Day 2021, as a new limited edition release featuring a second LP of rare Art of Noise recordings, presented as ‘Who’s Afraid of… Goodbye?’ These are making their first appearance on vinyl and were previously only available as part of the now deleted 2006 box set, ‘What Have You Done With My Body, God?’ For aficionados of the brilliant ZTT catalogue “this has been number 34 in Zang Tuum Tumb’s Incomplete Incidental Series, number 17 in the Complete Element Series, and now number 24 in the Definitive Definition Series.” 2 UMA RSD 2021 INFORMATION SHEET 1 2 Artist: Beastie Boys Title: Aglio E Olio Format: 12″ Colour Vinyl reissue with two newly added bonus tracks, “Soba Violence,” and a rare cover of “Light My Fire.” 3 UMA RSD 2021 INFORMATION SHEET 1 Artist: Bill Fay Title: Time Of The Last Persecution Format: 1LP Often labelled as enigmatic, Bill Fay’s loyal cult following has grown significantly over the years. Signed to Decca, the singer-songwriter and pianist released two albums in 1970 and 1971; their haunting, darkly shadowed songs were never meant to appeal to the masses, even at the height of the psychedelia- streaked introspection sparked by the soul-searching and ravaging events of the day. The title track, Time of the Last Persecution, was written in an immediate and visceral response to the killings of four students at Kent State. However, Fay’s records fell into obscurity, and he virtually vanished from music for more than two decades. Producer Joshua Henry, who had grown up listening to Fay’s early albums from his father’s record collection, tracked down and finally persuaded the reclusive songwriter to record again and hired Matt Deighton to assemble a studio band. The end result, Life Is People, appeared in August of 2012. Fay played live shows, but maintained his privacy. He released a follow-up, Who Is the Sender? in 2015, and a third album, Countless Branches in 2020. Among his fans are musicians including Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, and The War On Drugs. All three albums received universal critical acclaim. 4 UMA RSD 2021 INFORMATION SHEET 1 Artist: Bobbie Gentry Title: Windows Of the World Format: 1LP Bobbie’s journey from country singer-songwriter to blue eyed soul diva stopped off at a hitherto unknown destination along the way. Before she arrived at Muscle Shoals to work her magic with the late great Rick Hall, Bobbie cut a laid back album of classic and contemporary jazz tunes that was abandoned before it had chance to see the light of day. This was a shame, as Bobbie proves herself as adept in this genre as in any other. This self-produced collection first saw the light of day on the Bobbie Gentry boxset, but this lost album deserves to have its own separate release and what better format than vinyl? The set exudes a sophisticated and intimate late-night vibe mostly featuring Bobbie alone with her guitar accompanied by a bass player; occasionally there is a whisper of strings from Jimmie Haskell who famously composed the cello and violin arrangement on Ode to Billie Joe. Gentry fans will find much to love in Bobbie’s short lived but brilliant turn as a jazz singer. The original 8 tracks to be supplemented by the ‘I Didn’t Know’ and ‘Hushabye Mountain’ demos recorded around the same time, this LP also features the previously unreleased Hushabye Mountain [alternate version]. 5 UMA RSD 2021 INFORMATION SHEET 1 Artist: Cat Stevens Title: Harold & Maude OST Company: UMC/Island Format: 1LP Orange Vinyl The Paramount movie Harold and Maude was in December 1971 and in the almost fifty years since its release, has become a cult classic. Part of the reason for its success is undoubtedly its soundtrack, which is comprised exclusively of songs by Cat Stevens. The majority of tracks are taken from the two 1970 Island/A&M albums, Mona Bone Jakon and Tea for the Tillerman, but Cat Stevens also composed two original songs for the film, “Don’t Be Shy” and “If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out”, as well as performing instrumental and alternative versions. The Harold and Maude soundtrack was first released in super limited quantities on multiple coloured LP versions in 2007 via Cameron Crowe’s Vinyl Films label (copies now trade for hundreds of dollars or more via Discogs). Finally presented in its first Island/A&M release, this new 50th anniversary Record Store Day , on coloured 180g vinyl, will boast some key differences: • Brand new front cover design, exclusively available for this Record Store Day release. • Newly remastered audio, courtesy of Abbey Road Studios. • Dialogue / key audio snippets from the motion picture. 6 UMA RSD 2021 INFORMATION SHEET 1 Artist: Cranberries Title: Stars: the best of 92-02 Format: 2LP Coloured *First Time On Vinyl* Following on from the reissues of ‘Everybody Else is Doing it… ‘ and ‘No Need to Argue’ – and 30 years after their debut release – UMC are proud to issue for the first time on vinyl a special transparent edition of the band’s greatest-hits collection ‘Stars: The Best of 1992–2002’. The Cranberries rose to international fame in the 1990s with global smashes such as ‘Zombie’, ‘Dreams’ and ‘Linger’ – collected here alongside tracks from their five albums for Island – plus two tracks unavailable on other albums ‘New New York’ and ‘Stars’. 7 UMA RSD 2021 INFORMATION SHEET 1 Artist: Def Leppard Title: Live in Oxford Format: 2LP Originally part of the acclaimed Early Years box set, Live in Oxford makes its debut on vinyl. Recorded in 1980 this show captures the band on great form at the beginning of their career 1 Artist: Dire Straits Title: Encores Format: 1LP Coloured 8 UMA RSD 2021 INFORMATION SHEET A limited-edition reissue of the Dire Straits 1993 live EP Encores, remastered and pressed on pink vinyl with the inclusion of an exclusive 12” print to match the cover, with an embossed logo. • 12” EP, remastered and pressed on 180gsm transparent pink vinyl • Full colour outer sleeve • 12” x 12” print of the cover on 300gsm offset matt art paper with embossed logo • Download card with access to all tracks 1 Artist: Elton John Title: Regimental Sgt.Zippo – flip-back laminated gloss sleeve Format: 1LP After the rapturous reception for Jewel Box, Rocket/UMC/EMI are honoured to announce a strictly limited one-off bringing together of Elton John’s fabled Regimental Sgt Zippo album that was slated for release in 1968, but ultimately shelved. For one day only, we enter a parallel universe where this, not Empty Sky, would have been Elton John’s debut album. Recorded at Dick James Studios in Central London between late 1967 and Spring 1968, six of the 12 songs were released on Jewel Box, but five are here in their finished versions for the first time and a debut release for You’ll Be Sorry To See Me Go. Overseen with customary forensic attention to details by Elton’s archive team, RSZ is an absolute feast for fans of Elton John and Bernie Taupin. 1 9 UMA RSD 2021 INFORMATION SHEET 2 Artist: Freddie Mercury Title: Love Me Like There’s No Tomorrow Format: 7″ Pink Colour Vinyl To celebrate the year that would have been Freddie Mercury’s 75th Birthday, USM / Mercury Records will be releasing a Record Store Day 2021 exclusive 7″ single of ‘Love Me Like There’s No Tomorrow’ on PINK vinyl. Please note – the artwork is not final. 7″ single on PINK vinyl with paper inner bag Limited Edition 1 10 UMA RSD 2021 INFORMATION SHEET 2 Artist: John Martyn Title: The Church With One Bell Format: 1LP, Half Speed Mastered 180g Black Vinyl “In a world that lacks compassion, John Martyn and his music, is a breath of fresh air.” Recorded at CaVa Sound Studios, Glasgow, Scotland in 1998 – The Church With One Bell comprises a selection of haunting yet beautiful covers from one UK folk & rock’s most important figures. 11 UMA RSD 2021 INFORMATION SHEET 1 Artist: Linton Kwesi Johnson Title: Making History (Coloured Vinyl) Format: 1LP Coloured • Expanded LP edition of ‘dub poet’ Linton Kwesi Johnson’s classic 1984 album, featuring the original album + three bonus tracks. • Bespoke gatefold sleeve with enhanced artwork. • Remastered at Abbey Road, released on heavyweight YELLOW coloured vinyl. • Produced by Linton Kwesi Johnson and the legendary Dennis Bovell (‘Blackbeard’), the album continues LKJ’s fierce, politically-charged view of Britain at the time. His outspoken comments on the 1981 Brixton riots, the New Cross fire that killed 13 black teenagers and confronting the National Front are all tackled but with an accessible and strident dub-reggae beat.

FROM THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR MUSICAL THEAtre’s PresideNT Welcome to our 24th Annual Festival of New Musicals! The Festival is one of the highlights of the NAMT year, bringing together 600+ industry professionals for two days of intense focus on new musical theatre works and the remarkably talented writing teams who create them. This year we are particularly excited not only about the quality, but also about the diversity—in theme, style, period, place and people—represented across the eight shows that were selected from over 150 submissions. We’re visiting 17th-century England and early 20th century New York. We’re spending some time in the world of fairy tales—but not in ways you ever have before. We’re visiting Indiana and Georgia and the world of reality TV. Regardless of setting or stage of development, every one of these shows brings something new—something thought-provoking, funny, poignant or uplifting—to the musical theatre field. This Festival is about helping these shows and writers find their futures. Beyond the Festival, NAMT is active year-round in supporting members in their efforts to develop new works. This year’s Songwriters Showcase features excerpts from just a few of the many shows under development (many with collaboration across multiple members!) to salute the amazing, extraordinarily dedicated, innovative work our members do. A final and heartfelt thank you: our sponsors and donors make this Festival, and all of NAMT’s work, possible. We tremendously appreciate your support! Many thanks, too, to the Festival Committee, NAMT staff and all of you, our audience.

  • Cube-Shaped Planet
Filozofski vestnik | Volume XXXVII | Number 2 | 2016 | 115–130 Knox Peden* Cube-Shaped Planet This essay looks at a set of recent and not-so-recent works of ¨ction and criti- cism in order to develop some claims about the status of intention, and more speci¨cally how one goes about representing and interpreting a phenomenon like intention, in the age of the so-called Anthropocene. “So-called” here is not meant to signal cynicism, and certainly not climate-change skepticism. My con- cern is to explore the kinds of desires involved in rethinking the world as no longer divided between spheres of causes and reasons, which is to say divided between events that are natural in the sense that they are ultimately explicable as instances of natural laws, and events that are actions, i.e. that can only be explained by appeals to some kind of agential motivation that is not beholden to predictive schemata. One of the most striking aspects of the Anthropocene’s function in humanities scholarship today is the equivocation over its impli- cations for thinking through this division. In other words, there is no clarity, much less agreement, on whether our behaviour is ¨nally becoming thoroughly naturalized, amenable to the same kind of scienti¨c investigation as physical phenomena, or instead whether nature is being reenchanted with a kind of pur- posiveness that is continuous with, rather than contrastable to, the kind of pur- posiveness that is an explanatory element in human action. The treatment of this division as a problem has been central to philosophy from Kant to Davidson, which makes the present confusion all the more glaring.

“Reggatta de Blanc (White Reggae) & the Commercial Rock Industry: Intersections of Race, Culture, and Appropriation in Bob Marley and The Police (1977-1983)” Colin Carey Music University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Introduction Ethical Concerns Origins of Reggae This project was designed to approach a discussion about cultural and The appropriation of culturally sensitive music and expression is a musical appropriation in popular music. The connection between reggae and common, but often overlooked issue in popular music. It is important to mainstream rock was perhaps no more evident or lucrative than within the understand that Western cultures inherently possess a privilege that can musical career trajectory of the wildly popular new wave group, the Police be used to take advantage of other societies—especially those (1977–1983), comprised of lead singer/songwriter Sting (Gordon Sumner), comprising the so-called “third world.” The Police owe their substantial guitarist Andy Summers, drummer Stewart Copeland, and a promotional success to this imbalance, directly adapting the distinctive music cadre of behind-the-scenes agents and businessmen. Their particular practices of a foreign culture for their own musical purposes and industrial rock model enjoyed startlingly quick, widespread renown and recordings to create a sound that was unlike most popular rock groups success—within only a couple of years of their formation, the Police had of their time. This appropriation is further troubling in that it stripped the become the leading rock group of their time and would go on to influence the Jamaican source material of its definitive social and political direction of the music marketplace itself, including countless other acts such significance, gaining success instead through an appeal entirely as the then up-and-coming Irish group, U2.

Over to You 2003/2004 Remember This Song? Programnr:31495ra5 REMEMBER THIS SONG? A 2003 Musical Quiz Manus: Claes Nordenskiöld Producent: Claes Nordenskiöld Sändningsdatum: 19/11, 2003 Längd: 14’51 Music: Eminem “Lose Yourself ” Claes Nordenskiöld: Welcome to Remember This Song? – the yearly program that gives you a chance to remember a few of the hits of the past year – A 2003 Musical Quiz. What you heard in the opening was of course Eminem in “Lose Yourself ” from the soundtrack to the movie “8 Mile”. Now, whatever kind of music you like, whether it’s hip-hop, heavy metal, rock or pop, there’ll hopefully be something for you in this program – because there’s so much good music out there. You need a piece of paper and a pencil. I’m looking for a name with 11 letters, which make up the answer. Just write the numbers 1 to 11 on the left-hand side of your paper. And as always, I will play parts of several songs. Each part is a clue to the answer. The clues may be the title of a song, the name of a group or a singer, and so on. You may not be able to answer every single question, but you’ll still have a chance to get the final answer, which I’ll give, at the end of the show. So, let’s get started with the clue for number 3. The members of Outlandish have different ethnic backgrounds – Morocco, Pakistan and Honduras. But the band really comes from Denmark. For number 3, I’m looking for the title of their first super-hit.
