Released July 16, 2008 - Medicare Bill Supports Quality Patient Care through Imaging Accreditation Requirements

The Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) is pleased to acknowledge that on July 9, 2008, the U.S. Senate passed the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (H.R. 6331) which was previously passed by the House. Although the bill was vetoed by President Bush on July 15, it was subsequently over ridden by both the House and Senate turning it into law. This powerful legislation includes a provision requiring the accreditation of imaging facilities as well as the elimination of a scheduled 10.6% payment cut for physicians.

My children, 4 and 6, are part of the emerging Generation Z, a demographic too young to be stereotyped. In between are the mysterious creatures known as Generation Y. Born between the late 1970s and late 1990s, these so-called "millenials" intrigue me. As the first generation raised on the Internet, I suspect that they offer a glimpse into our future. They are more comfortable with technology than any other generation, they live at a faster pace, and yet they are more distracted. They mature slower, marry later, but use social networks to build large groups of friends. They have more choice and opportunity, and also more stress and anxiety as a result. This and more I learned in reading an intriguing new book by Kit Yarrow, a consumer psychologist at Golden Gate University in San Francisco, and Jayne O'Donnell of USA Today called: "Gen Buy: How Tweens, Teens, and Twenty-Somethings Are Revolutionizing Retail."
