    Terry’s Travels TT27-1 Dales/Brands/Nurburgring Aug 20th 2008 Just 13 days back in Yorkshire, it was a rush to see family, friends and service Mercie. There was time for a sunny early Sunday am ride into the Yorkshire Dales with my mate Bob - fantastic as ever. We ate breakfast with ‘our age’ cyclists who were doing a 65 mile spin in the hills and dales. Four and a half quid fuels your body for the day.........Bob chose to ride his BMW R1150 and I used the Yamaha that travels on Mercie. My grandsons have a new hobby - its how quick can Breakfast in Dales BMW & Serow they slim Gramps’ wallet?, an overnight in Blackpool doing it all and it was super effective, in fact I would have to go back to work (that’s a dirty word after 18 years) to keep up with them. We were so lucky with weather that allowed us to cruise there and back with the hood down. A family room overnight in the Hilton with breakfast is to be recommended. A day by the river with just ice creams to buy was fun too. With Mercie serviced and provisioned next was World Superbikes at Brands Hatch. Di’s great nephew Tho- mas was delivered to us on the campsite and enjoyed Dan & James at Blackpool all the fun of the fair, wall climbing and quad bike rid- ing before the main race day on Sunday. One of his highlights was to get a T shirt and best of all a sit on the new Ducati, not just any old bike but the 1098 that is proving so successful in this seasons racing.

Ein Sieg hier ist ein hart erarbeiteter Sieg. Zum Arsenal von Dunlop im Kampf gegen konkurrierende Reifenhersteller gehören bei diesem Rennen rund um die Uhr auch führende AMG- und BMW-Teams. Tiger 90, high performance 350 3TA introduced, similar to T100S/S. All 650s, (including Bonnies, 1963 Tbirds, TR6, Trophy) are built with a new unit construction engine/gear box. Tina T10, 100cc scooter with automatic transmission introduced (designed by Turner). The US-only TR6SC, a pure desert racer with straight pipes, was produced: basically a single-carb T120, very fast. 650s all get new coil ignition. First year for T120 unit construction models. The Bonnie undergoes numerous and significant upgrades to its engine, gearbox, transmission and frame (after toying with a duplex design, Triumph instead made a larger diameter downtube to combat wobble and weave). A special TT model (T120C/TT) is produced until 1967 for the USA, due to the encouragement of Bill Johnson, of Johnson Motors ("Jo-Mo"). This is a stripped-down racing model, only made until 1966 for the US market. Two US dealers on a camping trip come up with the idea for the T20M Mountain Cub, combining Tiger Cub, Sports Cub and trials Cub parts. First sold in USA in 1964, proves very successful. BSA closes the Ariel factory at Selly Oak. The last Ariels in production, the Leader and Arrow, are manufactured at BSA's factory in Small Heath until 1965. Norton Atlas released. AMC acquires James. Norman ceases production.

    P.1 of 9 Note 138 Isle of Man TT Mountain circuit:- Course Records Writing Note 137 about Indianapolis reminded this author that there is another circuit used for racing since 1911 which is almost unchanged – the Isle of Man Mountain circuit. This Note reviews the course records achieved there by Tourist Trophy motor-cycles and puts them in perspective with the machine Power/Weight ratios. The Mountain course of 37.73 miles used since 1920* rises to a height of 1,400 feet. It had a large surface change from mostly loose to tarmacadamed by 1925 and has had many corners “eased” since then but its plan is essentially unchanged. Unlike Indianapolis, with its 4 left-hand quarter- circle corners, it has 264 bends of every description! The plan is shown below. DASO 1246 *For the 1911-1914 races the course was 37.7 miles. In 1920 a change was made for the last few miles from Cronk-ny-Mona to bring the Start/Finish line onto the Glencrutchery Road. Course Record list As there does not seem to be readily available a consolidated list of outright Course Records one has been assembled from various sources. It is given in Appendix A at P. 6. There may be omissions. The figures are plotted on Fig. 1 at P.2 below, with various appropriate notes.
