Lovell President Marquette University Dr. Michael R. Lovell is Marquette University’s 24th president, serving since 2014. Under his guidance, Marquette focuses on innovation, entrepreneurship, and community renewal and development — all consistent with the university’s Catholic, Jesuit mission. President Lovell and his leadership team are rising up to lead Marquette through one of the most pivotal times for this country, when it is simultaneously facing national crises in health, the economy and racial injustice. Serving as a foundation for Marquette’s response is its strategic plan, Beyond Boundaries. At the center of every undergraduate’s educational experience and rooted in Jesuit perspective and values is the Marquette Core Curriculum, implemented in fall 2018 and undergoing continual reevaluation. The Campus Master Plan Initiative is integrating academic, physical and financial priorities over the next decade. The university has transformed the Strategic Innovation Fund, unveiled by President Lovell in 2014, into the two-track Marquette Impact Challenge. It continues to cultivate and fund innovative ideas from students, faculty and staff with a desire to involve community organizations. It has further expanded the President’s Challenge track to encourage community-focused responses to the coronavirus pandemic. Working with business and community leaders in Marquette’s neighborhood, President Lovell helped create the Near West Side Partners, a nonprofit focused on strengthening economic development, housing, neighborhood identity and safety. He and his wife, Amy, have formed Scaling Wellness in Milwaukee (SWIM), a community-wide effort addressing impacts of generational trauma. President Lovell serves as co-chair of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s Milwaukee Succeeds initiative and co-chairs Innovation in Milwaukee. The organizational boards on which he serves include: Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, Big East Conference and Children’s Wisconsin. He serves on executive committees of the Greater Milwaukee Committee, The Water Council, Morgridge Family Foundation and Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, for which he is chair. President Lovell is also a member of the Council on Competitiveness and co-chair of its University Leadership Forum. Prior to Marquette, he served the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee as chancellor and, earlier, dean of its engineering college. He previously held academic and research leadership positions at the University of Pittsburgh and University of Kentucky. President Lovell holds three mechanical engineering degrees, including a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh. He has received awards from the National Science Foundation, Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) and numerous other organizations; is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and National Academy of Inventors; and holds U.S. and global patents. 5 HONORARY DEGREES DOCTOR OF LETTERS Conferred on John Ridley Dear Graduates, Candidate will be presented by Kris Holodak, Assistant Professor of Digital Media and Performing Arts You are superstars! Cumulated Bibliography of Biographies of Ocean Scientists Deborah Day, Scripps Institution of Oceanography Archives Revised December 3, 2001. Preface This bibliography attempts to list all substantial autobiographies, biographies, festschrifts and obituaries of prominent oceanographers, marine biologists, fisheries scientists, and other scientists who worked in the marine environment published in journals and books after 1922, the publication date of Herdman’s Founders of Oceanography. The bibliography does not include newspaper obituaries, government documents, or citations to brief entries in general biographical sources. Items are listed alphabetically by author, and then chronologically by date of publication under a legend that includes the full name of the individual, his/her date of birth in European style(day, month in roman numeral, year), followed by his/her place of birth, then his date of death and place of death. Entries are in author-editor style following the Chicago Manual of Style (Chicago and London: University of Chicago Press, 14th ed., 1993). Citations are annotated to list the language if it is not obvious from the text. Annotations will also indicate if the citation includes a list of the scientist’s papers, if there is a relationship between the author of the citation and the scientist, or if the citation is written for a particular audience. This bibliography of biographies of scientists of the sea is based on Jacqueline Carpine-Lancre’s bibliography of biographies first published annually beginning with issue 4 of the History of Oceanography Newsletter (September 1992). It was supplemented by a bibliography maintained by Eric L. Mills and citations in the biographical files of the Archives of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD.

A rational relationship between the components of the powder composition at spark plasma sintering was established. The influence of optimum temperature, which is the most critical sintering parameter, on ceramic samples’ basic physical and mechanical properties was investigated. DLC coatings’ role in changing the surface properties of ceramics based on SiAlON, such as microrelief, friction coefficient, et cetera, was studied. WMC INVESTIGATION: 10-YEAR ANALYSIS OF GENDER & OSCAR NOMINATIONS womensmediacenter.com @womensmediacntr WOMEN’S MEDIA CENTER ABOUT THE WOMEN’S MEDIA CENTER In 2005, Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan, and Gloria Steinem founded the Women’s Media Center (WMC), a progressive, nonpartisan, nonproft organization endeav- oring to raise the visibility, viability, and decision-making power of women and girls in media and thereby ensuring that their stories get told and their voices are heard. To reach those necessary goals, we strategically use an array of interconnected channels and platforms to transform not only the media landscape but also a cul- ture in which women’s and girls’ voices, stories, experiences, and images are nei- ther suffciently amplifed nor placed on par with the voices, stories, experiences, and images of men and boys. Our strategic tools include monitoring the media; commissioning and conducting research; and undertaking other special initiatives to spotlight gender and racial bias in news coverage, entertainment flm and television, social media, and other key sectors. Our publications include the book “Unspinning the Spin: The Women’s Media Center Guide to Fair and Accurate Language”; “The Women’s Media Center’s Media Guide to Gender Neutral Coverage of Women Candidates + Politicians”; “The Women’s Media Center Media Guide to Covering Reproductive Issues”; “WMC Media Watch: The Gender Gap in Coverage of Reproductive Issues”; “Writing Rape: How U.S. Media Cover Campus Rape and Sexual Assault”; “WMC Investigation: 10-Year Review of Gender & Emmy Nominations”; and the Women’s Media Center’s annual WMC Status of Women in the U.S.

  • Apollo Over the Moon: a View from Orbit (Nasa Sp-362)
chl APOLLO OVER THE MOON: A VIEW FROM ORBIT (NASA SP-362) Chapter 1 - Introduction Harold Masursky, Farouk El-Baz, Frederick J. Doyle, and Leon J. Kosofsky [For a high resolution picture- click here] Objectives [1] Photography of the lunar surface was considered an important goal of the Apollo program by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The important objectives of Apollo photography were (1) to gather data pertaining to the topography and specific landmarks along the approach paths to the early Apollo landing sites; (2) to obtain high-resolution photographs of the landing sites and surrounding areas to plan lunar surface exploration, and to provide a basis for extrapolating the concentrated observations at the landing sites to nearby areas; and (3) to obtain photographs suitable for regional studies of the lunar geologic environment and the processes that act upon it. Through study of the photographs and all other arrays of information gathered by the Apollo and earlier lunar programs, we may develop an understanding of the evolution of the lunar crust. In this introductory chapter we describe how the Apollo photographic systems were selected and used; how the photographic mission plans were formulated and conducted; how part of the great mass of data is being analyzed and published; and, finally, we describe some of the scientific results. Historically most lunar atlases have used photointerpretive techniques to discuss the possible origins of the Moon's crust and its surface features. The ideas presented in this volume also rely on photointerpretation. However, many ideas are substantiated or expanded by information obtained from the huge arrays of supporting data gathered by Earth-based and orbital sensors, from experiments deployed on the lunar surface, and from studies made of the returned samples.
