WATERFRONT CLUB LOCAL RULES

Club Rule (Mt. Woodson)

There are no out of bounds or lost balls when we play Mt. Woodson. Play any lost ball or out of bounds ball as ball lost in area. Drop forward with one stroke penalty when the area lies between the box and the fairway.

Club Rule (Boulder Oaks)

All desert areas have been designated penalty areas (regardless of what it might say on the scorecard). The player has the option to play his/her ball as it lies in the desert area or take relief using the point the ball crossed into the desert area and a point one club length (longest club not your ) no nearer the hole to drop and play from with 1 penalty stroke added.

Example – Tee shot enters desert area and comes to rest in a location the player does not wish to play from. Relief is taken from the point the ball crossed into the desert area and the player is now playing their third shot (Stroke 1 in penalty area, drop is stroke 2, hit stroke 3)

Club Rule (Alternative to Stroke & Distance)

A new Local Rule will provide golfers with an alternative to stroke-and-distance relief for balls that are lost outside a penalty area or out of bounds. Stroke-and-distance relief will still be available (provisional shots are encouraged if in doubt) but it’s not the only option now. For a penalty of two strokes you can drop and not return to the position the original shot was played from. First, figure out where your ball went out of bounds or is likely to be lost. Then, find the nearest fairway edge. Lastly, drop your ball in a relief area between the two points defined above (Relief in the fairway is not allowed)

Club Rule (Bunkers)

Because of the substandard conditions found at many of the courses we play all bunkers are now deemed by the club to be penalty areas but still maintain the existing rules for grounding your club in a bunker. Should the player determine the lie of their ball and/or condition of the bunker creates a shot they do NOT wish to play they may now drop the ball using the point which their ball crossed into the bunker and a point one club length (longest club not your putter) no nearer the hole to drop and play from with 1 penalty stroke added understanding that point may place the same bunker between them and the hole for their next shot.

Presidents Cup Competition

Because we have been struggling to field enough players to hold our annual Presidents Cup competition, we are altering the competition to the following format:

Qualifying will take place over two consecutive weeks of normal tournament play where the 8 lowest net scores will be given the option to enter the Presidents Cup. If a member who qualifies can not commit to making themselves available to play in the competition the next lowest net score will be advanced into a qualifying position.

Once the 8 qualifying players have been established the field will be broken into two flights based on . 4 players in the low handicap flight and 4 players in the high handicap flight.

Round Robin play will take place over the next several Waterfront regularly scheduled tournaments or outside of the official club tournaments if opposing players agree to meet on their own. During round robin play each player will compete against all other players in their flight totaling 3 matches. All matches will be played until a winner is determined (no ties) with one point going to the winner of the match and no points to the loser. There is no change to how match handicaps are determined.

Once round robin play is concluded the top point earners from each flight will face off to determine the winner of the Presidents Cup while the 2nd place point earners from each flight will compete for 3rd and 4th place. If there is a tie for the top point earner during round robin play the head to head round robin match between the two players will determine who is the winner of that flight.
