Dewerstone House Ashford Road | Sheldwich | | | ME13 0LT Seller Insight

Dewerstone House is a stunning eighteenth century home that effortlessly combines the immense charm of its original features with the comfort and sophistication of the twenty first century. The present owner, Paul, says that it has been a much loved family home for the past twenty one years.

Paul explains that it was the superb position that first attracted him to the house. It enjoys a peaceful rural location in friendly Sheldwich village, only approximately five minutes from the historic town of Faversham, with its independent shops and restaurants. There is a wide choice of clubs and societies, annual festivals, plus the many walks in the beautiful . The house is also only a few minutes from the superb Macknade Fine Foods Store. There are good schools in the area and the easy access to the M2 and M20 is perfect for the commuter: and there is a rail service into St Pancras and London Victoria.

He also fell in love with the house itself. Dewerstone has an attractive and inviting façade; and the interior is a perfectly blended mix of the early building with both a Victorian and modern extension. Each room has great character, charm and comfort

The fine drawing room, with its elegant windows, original shutters, high ceilings, distinctive decorative cornice, wide floorboards, fireplace and doors combine to create a timeless elegance. Paul explains that it is the ideal room for more formal entertaining. It has always been the happy Christmas room, with presents under the tree. There are original Georgian keys to all the doors and Santa Claus would lock the door, with the young children having the excitement of finding the right key to fit the lock on Christmas morning. The generous dining room will easily seat twenty people and the windows frame lovely views across the countryside. The rear decking had to be large enough to accommodate Scottish dancing. It has been the centre of much happy noise.

Another favourite room: Dewerstone is a hospitable home and is at its best when full of people. The spacious and well equipped kitchen is perfect for daily meals, and chats over coffee at the kitchen table. Another family tradition is to light the old black lead stove, and roast winter chestnuts. The sitting room is ideal for TV viewing, and the music room has been well used. The teenage children had their drum kit, out of ear shot in one of the three bone dry cellars. The five bedrooms continue the same delightful ambience. The windows flood the rooms with natural light, with stunning views across the rolling landscape. You can see the sea from the master bedroom, whilst views to the church create a quintessential English country atmosphere.

The garden is an enchanting mix of lawn, shrubs and mature trees. It has been a great children’s playground, and the kitchen garden provides a plentiful harvest, whilst the brick built workshop is an adaptable space. A joy of the garden is that you can walk straight into the woodland at the rear.

What he will miss: Paul will miss everything about the area, the village and especially the people. He says that Dewerstone House has been the loveliest place to live and to bring up a family. He takes away very many happy memories.*
