1. INTRODUCTION

Dear participant in the 2019 MSR RT, greetings from CDRE T J Guy, RN (Dep Dir) and the rest of our team here at the Combined Joint Operations from the Sea Centre of Excellence (CJOS COE) in Norfolk, Va. The objective of your participation would be to leverage your deep experience in the area of maritime security, focused in this event on domain awareness. As a longtime advocate of globalizing maritime domain awareness through greater cooperation and information sharing, all of you would be allied to the themes and objectives of CJOS COE as host organization and COE CSW, MARSEC COE, NMIOTC as co-organizers in putting on this event.

This package contains information to assist you with the planning of your participation in this Roundtable. The event will be co-organized by CJOS COE, COE CSW, MARSEC COE, and NMIOTC. Meeting Venue The 2019 MSR RT meeting will take place in the Slover Library located at 235 E Plume St, Norfolk, VA 23510. It is walkable from recommended hotels (Norfolk Waterside Marriott, Hilton Norfolk The Main, Courtyard by Marriot and Sheraton Norfolk Waterside). Additionally, directly behind the library there is parking available at the Main Street parking garage off Atlantic St or at the MacArthur Shopping Center in front of the library.

Coffee Breaks Coffee, tea and water will be offered during the morning and afternoon breaks for all conference attendees.

Lunches Lunch will be served at the Slover Library. The menu will include one sandwich, choice of fruit, vegetable or pasta salad, potato chips and a homemade cookie. Participants are kindly asked to register via the CJOS website (www.cjoscoe.org). Additional details are available on our website.

Language All presentations and discussions will be held in English.

Classification The meeting will be held at the unclassified level.

3. REGISTRATION

All attendees must visit http://www.cjoscoe.org to register. Look for the 2019 MSR RT “Read more” button on the right side of the front page. You will then see the MSR RT page and the registration form. Once filled-in hit the “continue” button which will process your registration. You will be taken back to the same page. Scroll all the way down and you should see the note “Thank you for your message. It has been sent.” You should also receive an email confirming your registration.

There is a registration fee of 80 USD for this roundtable to be paid in US dollars on day one of the Roundtable.

5. ARRIVAL IN NORFOLK AND TRANSPORTATION TO THE MEETING VENUE

Arrival by Air Norfolk International Airport (http://www.norfolkairport.com/) welcomes all major carriers into Norfolk. It is located approximately 10 miles from downtown Norfolk and is easily accessible via car.

 Taxi: Taxi Cab service is located just outside the baggage claim lobby. Payment is made by cash, and in some instances credit cards are available.  Lyft: Lyft is now available at the airport. They will only be located outside door 5 from the baggage claim lobby. If Uber is available at the airport by April, they will also be located at door 5.  Rental Car: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty are available.

Local Transportation

 GO HRT: The bus system in Norfolk is not robust, but can be useful downtown with the light rail. Detailed information about this service can be found at http://gohrt.com/route/norfolk/. Fares: a single ticket costs $ 2 and a 1 day ticket pass costs $4.50.  Taxis: There are several taxi companies that are available in Norfolk. You can utilize your hotel to call for a pick up.  Lyft/Uber: Both shared ride services are widely available around Norfolk. You will need the US version of the app on your phone to use either.

6. GENERAL INFORMATION

Banking The standard opening hours for banks are: Mon-Sat: 09:00 to 17:00. There are several banks near the meeting venue and ATMs located around the city.

Telecommunications: If you want to call another country from the US, then dial 011 followed by the country code and the telephone number. If you wish to make national calls within the US, just dial the 10-digit number.

Electricity Electric power is standardized in all states across the USA. It is set at 110 Volts and 60 cycles. If you bring any electrical appliance to the USA, you may need an adaptor to fit the US electrical receptacles. You may also need a converter to change the voltage from 110 volts to 220 volts.

A hosted social event will be held 1730-1930, Tuesday, 30 April at Norfolk Taproom (101 Granby St., Norfolk, VA) for all attendees. Dress is civilian clothes.

CHRYSLER HALL Since its grand opening in 1972, Chrysler Hall has served as the premiere performing arts center of Hampton Roads. Many regionally based arts organizations call Chrysler Hall their home including Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Norfolk Forum, the Virginia Arts Festival, the Virginia Ballet, and the Generic Theatre.
