Three Poems Tapati Ray

Take My Soul The moaning wind made the bone dry branches to bow, The crackling leaves fell to the ground.

The fleeting glowworm’s lamp did nothing for the darkness. In the stealth of the night you came for me.

I have been waiting for you to hand you over my soul. Take good care of it for it belongs to you

now. Om Mother Saraswati Om Mother Saraswati Salutations to thee. Goddess of music & learning I seek your blessings.

In the middle of a night you woke me up. I was flooded with words of all kinds.

Larger Than Life They kept coming in myriads It was a dark world preexisting, like an advancing army, relentless. I happen to enter it, I don`t know why. They came to me in rows and lines, words of passion, and wisdom. I know when I started to climb the hills, the winding paths beckoned me, I Words of all shapes and sizes responded. Don’t know where they came from. They cried in unison, Storms loved me, I embraced them, weave a beautiful tapestry of lyric and What is the significance of life, of death? rhythm.

I am here now, I shall depart, don’t know I did as they forbade, selected the words when. carefully I carry on, oblivious of the inevitable. and deftly crafted them. When I woke up, Is there a significance of being a puppet I found a string of pearls adorning my neck. in some unknown hands? Will never know.

I believe that the world we live in is not an specifically Earth, as grains of sand in a vast important microscopic particle in our vast desert. If suddenly one grain of sand galaxy and universe. The first time I started vanishes from the desert, the terrain would to believe this was back in my third grade not be affected at all. This is similar to the science class. We were studying the Earth; it is a little planet in our enormous astronomy chapter and learned about how galaxy. If any type of catastrophe occurred our universe was generated and galaxies that caused the end of our world, our solar were formed. Honestly, before this chapter, I system would be somewhat affected but our used to think that our solar system was in galaxy would not be influenced at all; it the center of outer space until I learned would stay the same. Believe me I am not about what a galaxy was. After third grade, trying to sound pessimistic; I am just stating my interest in astronomy grew the factual truth. Everyday, old star systems exponentially. During the rest of elementary die off and new stars are born. One day, school, whenever I had leisure time, I millions of years from now, even our star occasionally searched Google Images just to will eventually disappear. Yet our galaxy view random galaxies. Once middle school will suffer no pain. started, I was lured even more deeply into astronomy and began to gather information about large stars millions and billions of times bigger than our sun. Similarly, I used to research complex star systems, black holes, nebuli, and other galactic mysteries because I found the cosmos so interesting. Until this day, I continue to research about this science. So what exactly is a galaxy? Galaxies are complex structures containing millions and billions of stars, dust, and some black holes. Their diameters range from thousands Earth is truly unique in my opinion to millions of light years, and they form into because it is the only known planet that a variety of different shapes. The galaxy we actually supports life in our solar system. It live in is called The Milky Way. It contains has a large diversity of living creatures and a around 300 billion stars in a loose spiral huge variety of geography. But I believe that form. Almost all of these stars are suns in it is still too small to be of any significance their own solar systems. in this galaxy and universe. We visited the rooms in which Narendranath and his family worked, ate, and slept, and I liked looking at the stately furniture and old family portraits. Several rooms gave me a glimpse of what a remarkable boy Narendranath Dutta must have been: his father’s room where he used to throw valuables out the window to the beggars below, the waiting room where he once smoked out of different hookahs to see if it would affect his caste, the meditation room where he once kept meditating despite the appearance of a cobra, not to mention the room where he had once received a divine vision of the Buddha. The Thakur Dalan was very impressive with its grand, massive columns, and the prayer room where Swamiji’s mother Bhuvaneshwari The large house in which Narendranath Devi had prayed everyday for the birth of a Dutta (the future Swami Vivekananda) was son (her prayers ultimately being answered born had been built by his great grandfather by the birth of Narendranath) was also a Rammohan Dutta.
