Global Health in Bio-medical, Social and Cultural perspectives Bergen, 21 June - 2 July 2010 Open debate meeting, 30th June, 18.00-21.00, Faculty of Law, Auditorium 1

Meeting places: Forging a new academia for integral global health Convenor: Professor Asuncion Lera St.Clair, University of Bergen

Global health cannot be seen in isolation with other fundamental global challenges, especially those that frame the Bergen Summer Research School: global poverty, environmental and energy challenges, and climate change, and matters related to culture, norms, language, histories, values and belief systems. However, disciplinary boundaries, cognitive differences, separate professional careers and institutional interests, or promotion incentives tend to lead to a disconnection between scholars. As the world becomes more interconnected and challenges global in scope, and higher institutions are poorly prepared for addressing these issues. This roundtable aims to debate the synergetic and positive contributions of multidisciplinary dialogue with a concrete focus on what are the contributions of each different course in this year’s BSRS towards an integral perspective on global health.

Speakers: *Knut Fylkesnes, Professor, Centre for International Health, UiB Course leader, Severe HIV epidemics and multidisciplinary research challenges in prevention *Nefissa Naguib, Senior Researcher, Uni Global Course leader, Health and Recovery in times of disruption: Anthropological and historical perspectives *Aamir Khan, Center for Health Informatics, Interactive Research & Development & Indus Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan Course leader, Electronic mobile data in global health research: a hands-on course *Torvid Kiserud, Professor, Dept of Clinical Medicine, UiB Course leader, Global Challenges in Reproductive Health *Bernt Lindtjørn, Professor, Centre for International Health, UiB Course leader, Research methods in climate change and health *Gro Therese Lie, Professor, Research Centre for Health Promotion, UiB Course leader, Researching Children’s Well-Being in the Context of Global Inequity *Ole Frithjof Norheim, Professor, Dept of Public Health and Primary Health, UiB Course leader, The Right to Health in Resource Constrained Settings: Rights, Litigation, and Social Justice *H.
