LENT PROGRAMME 2019 A WELCOME FROM THE RECTOR OF LIVERPOOL

This year’s Lent Programme for the City contains many of the elements of our ministry: worship, thought leadership, music, art, and social action.

We are delighted to welcome the to Liverpool Parish Church at the start of Lent at the beginning of his three day mission to the Diocese of Liverpool: at the end of the service on Ash Wednesday he will go out into the City, and we are following his lead and taking two more events in our Programme ‘off site’ and into the City.

For 800 years the Church has been opening its doors to the City: they are open for you this Lent.

At 12.30pm a sculpture of the Homeless Jesus by Timothy Schmalz will be unveiled in the Church Gardens.

Friday 5th April | 6.30pm St John Passion, by A. Scarlatti Early Music as Education

A generation before Bach, Scarlatti’s Passio Secundum Ioannem was written in Naples in 1685 where he was ‘maestro di cappella’ in the royal chapel.

For details of Holy Week and Easter Services, please see the church website

Advance Notice The veteran activist Peter Tatchell will speak at St Nick’s at 6.30pm on Wednesday 16 October. You can find us on Chapel Street, just opposite the Liver Building. There has been worship on the site since the 13th century, and our ministry has evolved over the years as the shape of Liverpool has changed.

Today you are just as likely to find tourists in the church as city workers or local residents. We value our civic and maritime connections, and continue to have a place at the heart of the life of Liverpool.
