  • Touching Textures Through the Screen: a Cinematic Investigation of the Contemporary Fashion Film
Touching Textures Through the Screen: A Cinematic Investigation of the Contemporary Fashion Film Name: Simone Houg Supervisor: Dr. M.A.M.B Baronian Student Number: Second Reader: Dr. F.J.J.W. Paalman Address: University of Amsterdam Master Thesis Film Studies Phone Number: 26 June 2015 Email: [email protected] Word Count: 23709 2 Abstract The contemporary fashion film emerged at the beginning of this century and has enabled fashion and film to enter into an equivalent relationship. This symbiotic relationship goes back to the emergence of both disciplines at the beginning of the twentieth century. The fashion film is a relatively new phenomenon that is presented on the Internet as a short film, made by fashion designers and fashion houses that optionally collaborate with well-known filmmakers. The fashion film expresses itself in many forms and through many different styles and characteristics, which makes it hard to grasp. In the case studies on the fashion films commissioned by Dior, Prada, Hussein Chalayan and Maison Margiela, concepts such as colour, movement and haptic visuality are investigated, in order to demonstrate that by focusing on the fashion films' similar use of these cinematic techniques, a definition of the fashion film can be constituted. The fashion film moves in our contemporary society; a society that is focused on ideas of progress, increased mobility and other concepts that characterise a culture of modernity. These concepts evoke feelings of nostalgia and the fashion film responds to this by immersing the spectator into a magical, fictionalised world full of desired garments, objects and settings. The ‘aura’ that surrounds the fashion brand is expressed by letting the viewer fully participate in this fashioned world.

  • Pack Like a Pro!
Pack Like a Pro! Packing clothes and accessories seems easy enough but these days there are so many tools to make packing even more efficient by saving space in your bag as well as organizing it so it doesn’t become a disaster going in and out of it. Warnings: Shorts are not always the best attire even during the summer season for the UK so check weather before you pack and remember their 50-60 is not the same as a hot state like Florida or country like Jamaica. Don’t be misled if you believe jeans are great to pack. They aren’t the best type of pants to take as they weigh more and are thicker than casual pants such as kaki or chino (cotton) pants. If it is a colder season, taking a pair of long johns/thermal underclothing and layer instead. You need lots of shoes to go with all your outfits? Absolutely NOT! You just need a good pair of walking/hiking shoes or boots and a nice pair of casual shoes (optional: formal if you have a formal engagement during your vacation) Walk-About in UK: A lot of the ground for walking in the UK the majority of time will be uneven pavement/sidewalks and grounds. If you have bad ankles, consider taking hiking boots. NOTE: Don’t pack them in the check-in bag but wear them on the plane. Once settled in your seat, take them off during the long flight and using slippers or sock booties. Then, pack one pair of nice/casual shoes in your check-in bag.

Advances in Social Science, Education and Humanities Research, volume 197 5th Bandung Creative Movement International Conference on Creative Industries 2018 (5th BCM 2018) Implementation of Plastic Fusing Method to Upcycle Products of Plastic Waste Terbit Setya Pambudi1*, Yanuar Herlambang2, Fajar Sadika3 1School Of Creative Industries, Telkom University, Bandung, Indonesia Abstract. Plastic waste is one of the most numerous in number, approximately 10 % of the total waste in the world. Plastic packaging, grocery bags, and home furnishings are the types that often found. There have been many efforts to reduce the amount of waste and the impact it causes, one of them is the up-cycling method. Up-cycling is the utilization method of waste products that have more value or new. By using this method, in addition to being able to reduce the plastic waste amount while creating new products with new value and functionality, namely small wallets, shopping bags, backpacks, gadgets sleeve etc. One method of up- cycling plastic is plastic fusing methods that uses heat and plastic waste to create new materials with thickness and strength. The current utilization of plastic waste has been undertaken by communities to produce a product, namely craftsman group named Kunarti but less variety of processing methods, limited to knitting method only. Based on the phenomenon, this research was conducted to find out how the application of the plastic fusing method so that it can be easily done, and into alternative methods of up- cycling which is can be applied by the craftsmen community in Bandung. THE JEWELRY OF TIJERAS PUEBLO By Lucy C. Schuyler Maxwell Museum Technical Series No. 15 Maxwell Museum of Anthropology MSC01, 1050, 1 University of New Mexico Albuquerque, New Mexico 87131-0001 www.unm.edu/~maxwell 2010 (Revised 2011) Note added November 2011 In November, 2011, five turquoise pieces that had been on display at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History (Figure A.1) were returned to the Maxwell Museum. These pieces were not available for close examination during my study, so the exact identity of certain artifacts was uncertain (see Page 84). Once the five pieces were returned to the Maxwell Museum, the pendant listed in the report as Catalogue No. 78.67.397 was found to correspond to Catalogue No. 78.67.111, listed as “unavailable for examination.” Likewise, the pendant listed as Catalogue No. 78.67.141B was found to correspond to Catalogue No. 78.67.397. The Tijeras jewelry Excel spreadsheet and master artifact spreadsheet have been updated to reflect the new information. As a result of these revisions, the number of artifacts originally reported is overstated by one. The total collection includes 450 specimens, 390 jewelry artifacts, and 92 pendants.
