Many locals know Keith Jones as the friendly Senior Vice President of Commercial Banking for Hills Bank, a position from which he retired in 2019 after 48 years in banking. Others know him through his equally long years of community involvement that includes Goodwill Industries, Big Brothers Big Sisters, IC Chamber of Commerce, Coralville Library Board of Trustees, Coralville Community Food Panty, Community Foundation of Johnson County, RAGBRAI Treasurer, Coralville Library’s Summer Reading Program for kids and avid 4th fest and BrrrFest supporter. Yet Keith is perhaps most notably known for his genius and hilarious interpretations of the 4thFest parade theme, something he and a team of Hills Bank accomplices spent months secretly planning. He has delighted scores of thousands as Henry VIII in full royal regalia, got everyone “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” as Richard Simmons (including the fitness guru’s signature curly hair and super short shorts), Doc Brown from “Back to the Future” (while leaning on an authentic DeLorean,) Cousin Eddie (in a bathrobe) and Clark Griswold from the Vacation movies, became Popeye (with a can of spinach on hand), and pretended (?) to be taking a bubble bath in a cast iron tub, just to name a few crowd-pleasing antics! Since retiring in 2019, Keith and his wife Connie celebrated their 50th anniversary in April and spend as much time as they can with their 4 children and 6 grandchildren. However, we hope Keith will continue to make special appearances in future 4thfest parades. In honor of Keith’s commitment to family, community, and his indelible impact on 4thfest, the Coralville 4thFest Committee is proud to introduce Keith Jones as our 2021 Grand Marshal! 2021 Coralville 4thFest is proud to celebrate the Iowa River Power Plant! 501 1st Avenue, Coralville One of the oldest and most recognizable landmarks in Coralville, the Iowa River Power Plant began as a flour mill built in 1844 that was run with hydropower from the Iowa River. A devastating explosion and fire destroyed the original building in 1899fte a r which it was rebuilt and converted into a power plant in 1902. The Dam was also later rebuilt and a wheel house added. In 1964 the plant became part of the Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Company until shut down in 1968 and sold to the City of Coralville for $1. The site sat idle until 1977 when it became the Iowa River Power Company Restaurant (or IRP). The building was purchased in 2002 by David and Danise Petsel and continues to be a popular destination today. Thank you to our 4thFest Sponsors!
