1 Principal’s Message

Principal: Dr. T. Raja Rajeswari, M.Sc, M.Phil, Ph.D

Government Degree College Eluru was established in 2008. It is situated at center Eluru city. As it located in urban atmosphere and easily accessible with good transportation facilities, The College has expectable potentiality for its excellence in coming future.

Since its foundation, the college has produced many graduates by providing qualitative education in bachelor degree. Since Eluru town is surrounded by many villages, the college provides opportunity of education to many students who come with rural and poor background. Since it is a government college and it is at accessible location, Degree Online Admissions Help Line Centre is also officially given to the college.

Presently the college is being run in the Government Jr. College premises and building with a

Principal’ s office cum staff room, six classrooms and a Virtual Lab which is used as meaning hall for various programs, as an e-class room, as a lab for science and computer technology streams. The need of own land and full infrastructure is going to be fulfilled by the Government of ; the land acquisition process is going on fruitfully. In this academic year, we are on a confident expectation of

2 arraignment of possible infrastructural amenities.

The college, apart from regular classes, offers daily coaching classes in view of various competitive exams through Jawahar Knowledge Centre (JKC) an official body initiated by Commissionarate of

Collegiate Education, AP. The JKC wing of the college is actively engaged in equipping the students with industry-needed and global skills.

The college maintains Women Empowerment Cell for empowering girl students and redressing grievances of the girl students and women staff. Red Ribbon Club is another active wing of the college. It involves students with various awareness programs on HIV & AIDS and blood donation camps. All these student-centric, service -oriented activities are useful to inculcate knowledgeable and humanitarian attitude in the minds of students. Through such programs students can achieve social and academic excellence.

The college has three groups; viz. B.A. (HEP) , B.Com (General) and B.Sc. (MPC; CBZ). One more new group is approved for this academic year by Adikavi Nannaya University, namely B.A. with the combination of Tourism, History and Political Science. The college has 12 teaching staff members with One

Doctorate, two M.Phil Degree holders. For JKC, a guest mentor has been recently taken. All the staff members have good teaching experience with excellent command on their individual subjects. Regarding

Non-teaching staff, the college has one senior assistant, one junior assistant (on Out Sourcing) and an attender.

Most of the students who studied /are studying in this college are economically backward, but so far, many of the passed-out alumni of the college are well settled in various private sector jobs, and some could achieve Government positions also.

Apart from curricular aspects, the college also encourages students in games & sports and various cultural activities. Each department conducts educational tours every year. Guest lectures and experts’ talks are arranged for the benefit of the students.

The college is going to have a new infrastructure and own building as soon as possible. Student- centered teaching and learning approach is implemented in the classes. The college, with collective efforts

3 and mutual help of the faculty members, works for student welfare. Our main motto is to make our students complete citizens with required knowledge and skills along with social consciousness so as to be useful to the nation as responsible citizens.

1. Eluru

Eluru is a city and the district headquarters of in the Indian state of Andhra

Pradesh. It is one of the 14 municipal corporations in the state and the mandal headquarters of Eluru mandal in the Eluru revenue division. The city is on the Tammileru river. The city is well known for its wool-pile carpets and hand woven products. As of 2011 Census of India, the city had a population of

217,876. Its history dates back to the second century CE. Eluru plays a major role in education for urban and rural students from nearby villages. It has an average literacy rate of 83.90% with, according to the 2011 census, a total number of 155,894 who are literate. This includes, 80,434 men (88.13%) and 75,460 women

(79.82%). Primary and secondary school education is provided by government, aided, and private schools, under the School Education Department of Andhra Pradesh. There are more than 100 private schools and 49 municipal schools. There are more than 30,000 students in these schools.

2. Government Degree College

Government Degree College Eluru is located at Kotadibba. It is located along with a Government

High School and a Government Jr. College. In front of the college, there is a playground. The atmosphere of the college is very peaceful with green trees which provide cool shadow, a natural relief to visitors. Beside the college, we have a badminton court and a garage for keeping vehicles. As part of development of the college, with the intervention of Sri. Alla Nani, Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, The college is going to get land for construction of own building soon.

10 5. Important Wings in the College

• Jawahar Knowledge Centre (JKC)

Government Degree College, Eluru, contains JKC as a special wing of the college. Presently, our Full

Time Mentor is deputed to CCE Office as per the instructions of the honorable CCE. Hence a guest mentor has been recently taken to fulfill the needs. This academic year, English lecturer took the charge as JKC Coordinator.

• Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)

The college has IQAC committee for maintaining quality standards in teaching, learning ad evaluation process. The committee is constituted with Principal Dr. RajaRajeswari to act as chairman, P. Nirmala

Kumari (Lecturer in Economics), as coordinator and other lecturers as members. Under the guidance of coordinator, faculty members are doing various activities in the college.

• Women Empowerment Cell (WEC)

The college has constituted WEC in order to empower the female students, P. Nirmala Kumari

(Lecturer in Economics) is acting as coordinator of WEC. It creates awareness among the students

about gender sensitivity. Various programmes and activities are organized on WEC platform in order

to educate and sensitize students’ community.

• Red Ribbon Club (RRC)

The college has Red Ribbon Club as one of the important wings. Dr. P. Lakshmi Narasa Dasu, lecturer

in English is working as convener for this wing. RRC conducts various programmes to bring social

awareness about HIV & AIDS among students. It also helps medical professionals by participating in

Blood Donations.

11 6. Activities During Covid-19 Lockdown

➢ Every faculty member conducted Online classes through Zoom, Google meet, Whats app etc.,

➢ All faculty members participated in National and International Webinars and Quiz programmes

etc.,

➢ On behalf of our college we distributed the food commodities for 30 families on 12.04.2020.

➢ Dr. T. Raja Rajeswari, principal of the college, personally donated an amount of Rs.10116/- to

Chief Minister Relief Fund.

➢ Sri K. Ramesh Lecturer in Chemistry conducted State Level Webinar on the occasion of World

Ozone Day on 16.09.2020.

➢ Sri K. Ramesh Lecturer in Chemistry Conducted National Level Quiz on Environmental

Chemistry.

➢ Smt A. L. K. Krupavaram, Lecturer in Zoology, Conducted National Level Quiz on Covid.

➢ Sri K. Ramesh Lecturer in Chemistry prepared video lessons on Amino-Acids.

➢ Dr. P. Lakshmi Narasa Dasu, Lecturer in English, acted as one of the members of Subject Expert

Committee in LMS for English.

➢ Dr. P. Lakshmi Narasa Dasu, Lecturer in English, contributed a video lesson as a presenter in

LMS.

➢ Sri K. Ramesh Lecturer in Chemistry Prepared Question Bank on Paper-IV through Video Mode

of AKNU.

12 7. Activities During November and December

• Covid Testing 13/ 11/2020

Covid testing was conducted in the college. Both the college staff and the students were tested by

the local health authorities in Eluru. Altogether sixty people were tested in the college. Test

results were sent to individual mobile phones of the candidates who got tested after three days. As

per the result no one in the college got affected with Covid.

13 • Webinar on Diabetes 14-11-20

Organizing Body: Department of Chemistry

A Seminar was conducted on Diabetes on the occasion of World Diabetes Day .In this seminar,

resource person provided information about how diabetes affects people and how it is to be

prevented. In this seminar, altogether fifty students and faculty members participated .This

seminar was conducted online through Zoom App.

15 • World AIDS Day Date: 01/12/2020

Organizing Body: Red Ribbon Club & Zoology Department

Description of the Activity: To create awareness among the students regarding HIV and AIDS,

under Red Ribbon club and department of zoology a program has been conducted and the teachers

created awareness among the students on the occasion of World AIDS Day.

Organizing Body: Internal Quality Assurance Cell

A Hands on Training programme was conducted in the virtual class room under Chairmanship of the

Principal of the college. It was organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell on 04.12.2020 Smt.

P.M.Prasuna, Associate Professor attended as Resource person and delivered a lecture on usage of Cisco-

Webex for online teaching staff of Government Degree College, Eluru. Lecturers from Kamavarapukota,

Narayanapuram, Chintalapudi etc., also participated in the programme through Go To Meetings app.

18 • Anti-corruption Day 9/12/2020

Organizing Body: Department of Commerce

Anti-corruption Day was observed in the college to create awareness about the social malady of

bribing and economic frauds. The programme was conducted by the Commerce department. The

principal, Dr. T. Rajarajeswari, presided over the meeting. Many issues, problems in this regard

were discussed by the faculty and students. The role of students to act against corruption was

explained to the students.

19 • International Human Rights Day Date: 10/12/2020

Organizing Body: Association of Humanities

Description of the Activity: Under the association of Humanities, along with political science

department, history department, English department also took an important role in conducting

International Human Rights Day and we created awareness about the importance of human rights

and values to the students.

20 • Youth Festival Competitions Date: 11/12/2020

Organizing Body: Cultural Committee

Under the guidance of cultural committee five students participated in district level Youth Festival competition which was conducted by the Department of Youth Services, West Godavari District. Five girl students participated in the programme and sang a force folk song on the importance nature and trees. It was an online program.

21 • Sri. Alla Nani visit to College Regarding Land Alienation 15/12/2020

Sri Alla Kali Sri Krishna Srinivas, the Deputy Chief Minister – Minister of Health, Family

Welfare & Medical Education, of Andhra Pradesh, visited our college to know the present

situation of the college land and building. He discussed with Dr. T. Raja Rajeswari, the principal

of the college about various possibilities of land acquisition for collage building construction. The

discussion went on fruitfully giving hopeful expectation of land allotment. The minister also

watched the ground in the premises and ordered the officials to find out the possibilities to provide

land for Government Degree College, Eluru.

22 • Board of Studies Meet Date :19.12.2020 Participant Body: Economics Department

Lecturer in Economic, Smt. P. Nirmala Kumari attended online Board of studies meet conducted

at ANR Degree College, Gudivawada, . She took part in the meet as a subject

expert along with the other Lecturers. In the meeting, few changes were suggested in the syllabus

of Economics prescribed by the Krishna University, Machilipatnam.

23 • Principal as FAC at GDC, Narayana Puram 21/12/2020

According to the orders of the Commissioner of the Collagiate Education of Andhra Pradesh,

the principal of the college, Dr. T. Raja Rajeswari, has been assigned an additional

responsibility as FAC principal at Government Degree College, Narayana Puram on 21st

December 2020.

24 • National Mathematics Day 22/12/2020

Organizing Body: Department of Mathematics

On the occasion of birthday of the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, National Mathematics

Day was celebrated in the college. Retired IIT Professor K.V. Seshagiri Rao was invited as the

resource person. He explained to the students how mathematics is to be understood and studied.

Principal and lecturers also expressed their views about the importance of the subject.

25 • MLC Sri Ramu Surya Rao Visit 23/12/ 2021

Member of Legislative Council Sri Ramu Surya Rao visited our college on 23rd December 2020. He

interacted with Principal and the staff members regarding the facilities available to the students in

the college. The matter of land acquisition to the college was discussed with him. The MLC

responded with concern about the matter and offered his support in this regard.

26 • National Consumers Day 24-12-2021

Organizing Body: Department of Commerce

National Consumers Day was observed in the college. It was conducted by the Department of

Commerce.V. Bangar Raju, Ex-president of West Godavari District Consumer Forum was invited

to illuminate the students about various topics related to commercial markets and consumers. He

explained the students about rights of consumers. On this occasion, a debate on ‘Consumers’ role

in digital trade’ was also conducted. The meritorious students in the debate were awarded

certificates.

• Webinar on Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals 30-12-20

Organizing Body: Department of Chemistry

A Seminar was conducted on ‘Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals and its Applications’ in this

seminar. The resource person Dr. U.V.R Sardhi, senior scientist at IIT of chemical technology,

Hyderabad, provided scientific aspects of application of endocrine disrupting chemicals. In this

seminar, altogether forty students and faculty members participated.

29 • Parents’ Meeting Dt: 05/01/2021

Organizing Body: Mentoring / Ward Counseling Committee

Description of the Activity: This meeting was organized with both our college students and their

parents to create awareness about the courses, facilities, further carrier guidance and job

opportunities. The aim of this meeting focused on the higher education qualifications which are

provided in this college. The meeting was organised in Room No: 27. The Principal of the college,

Dr. Raja Rajeswari, presided over the meeting. Teaching staff also talked about the facilities in the

college and the achievements of the ex-students of this college. Parents who attended the meeting

interacted with all the lecturers in this meeting. Students also positively expressed their views

about the operational system of the college. The discussion was fruitful as its purpose was

successful in making the students and parents know about the academic aims.

30 • Help Line Centre 9/1/2021

For online admissions into degree college courses, a Helpline Centre has been allotted to the

Government Degree College Eluru by the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education, AP. Under

32 • Sankranti Celebrations Date: 11/1/2021

Organizing Body: Cultural Committee

Description of the Activity: On the occasion of the festival Sankranti, cultural committee

conducted singing competitions and Rangoli competitions in our college. Students celebrated this

program happily. Certificates were given to the best singers. Under the guidance of A.L. K.

Krupavaram, lecturer in Zoology, Rangoli competition was held on this occasion. Students

enthusiastically participated in the activity. The winners were given certificates at Republic Day

celebrations. The following are the prize winners in the competitions. .

33 • National Youth Day 12/01/ 2021

Organizing Body: Department of History

With the initiative of the department of History, on the occasion of the birthday of Swami

Vivekananda, National Youth Day was celebrated in the college. As part of the programme,

Vivekanada’s life history, his principles and ideology were discussed before the students. The role

of youth in the construction of nation was the key topic in the programme.

34 • Sanitary stand donated by Lions Smart City members 13/01/2021

In view of prevention of Covid, a sanitary stand has been provided to the college by Lions Smart

City Members. The principal and the staff and the students conveyed their gratitude to the

members for their generous donation. The stand is very useful to the students so as to sanitize

hands regularly.

35 • Essay Writing and Elocution Competitions Date: 22/01/2021

Organizing Body: History and English Departments

On the occasion of birthday of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, a program of elocution competitions

was conducted by department of history and department of English collectively. In this

programme, the student participants gave speeches about life history of Nethaji, his patriotism,

discipline and ideology. Many important details regarding his participation in national movement

were unfolded before the students. The students were enlightened about some of his slogans like

‘Jai Hind’, Delhi Chalo’ and ‘I want your blood, I will give you freedom’. The programme was

successful in inculcating patriotism in many students. In continuation of the programme, AVR

Mohanrao (Secretary, AVR Vignana Kendram), L Venkateswarrao (Andhra Pradesh State

Secretary of Librari Association) were also invited to the college. The invitees gave their valuable

message to the students about patriotism and social service. The winners and runners in the

competitions were given prizes on the day of Netaji's birthday celebrations.

36 • Nethaji’s Birthday Celebration Date: 23/01/21

Organizing Body: Arts & Humanities

For the celebration of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose birthday department of English, department of

history, department of Commerce and department of Telugu collectively conducted a program. By

inviting resource persons AVR Mohanrao (Secretary, AVR Vignana Kendram), L Venkateswarrao

(Andhra Pradesh State Secretary of Librari Association) and from Jana Vignana Vedika, the

birthday was celebrated grandly. The resource persons who attended gave their valuable talk about

society, and they shared some information regarding Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose life and

history.

37 • International Voters’ Day Dt: 25/01/2021

Organizing Body: Political Science

With the initiative of the department of Political Science, this programme was conducted by

college students and faculty members. It was about students’ awareness about International

Voters’ Day. This programme was conducted in the virtual class room. Principal, .Dr.T. Raja

Rajeswari, presided over the meeting. For this programme, as resource persons, K. Krishna Rao

(Senior Advocate, District Court) L. Venkateswar Rao ( Rtyd Librarian, CR Reddy College) G.

Kiran ( District President, Jai Bheem Association) were invited. The importance of various

concepts such vote, voting, democracy etc was elaborated to enlighten the students. The need of

knowledge regarding the Indian Constitution was also well explained by the resource persons.

38 • Republic Day Celebration 26/01/2021

On 26th January 2021, Indian Republic Day was celebrated in the college. Principal Dr. T. Raja

Rajeswari, Hoisted the national flag. All the attendees saluted to the national flag with respect. On

this occasion, Dr. B.R. Ambetkar statue was honored by the principal with a flower garland. As

part of the programme, with a view of responsibility and to create sensitivity about social service

in the minds of students, food distribution to fifty people at Premalayam Old-age Home in Eluru,

was fulfilled by the college staff.

• Swatch Bharath Dt: 02.01.2021

Organizing Body: Department of Economics

A Swatch Bharath cleaning program was conducted by the Department of Economics in

the college premises. . In front of B.A class rooms, the bushes and some waste matter

were removed by B.A students. They made the way very clean and hygienic. As part of

the activity, the students cleaned their class rooms also.

Organizing Body: Department of Economics

Student Seminar was conducted by the department of Economics. Second B.A. Students named G.

Mohana Krishna, M. Paidu Naidu and some others also presented on their assigned topics. Each participant was assigned one topic. Guidance was given on how to present in seminars. One week time was given for their preparation. All the students presented well. The topics are mainly related

Paper –III in the Economics subject.

• 3-Day Training Programme Dt: 21-01-2021 to 23-01-2021

Organizing Body: Department of Zoology

A 3-day training programme on ‘low cost processing of fruits and vegetables’ was organized

by Dr YSR Horticultural University at Venkataramannagudem. The training was about processing

of fruits and vegetables. It deals with the process that we can make use of it with minimum

amount of investment. Five students accompanied by Smt. A.L.K. Krupavaram, Lecturer in

Zoology attended this training programme. Students learnt about preparation of Squash,

Tomato Ketchup and Jam on large scale.

42 • Campus Sanitization 29-1-2021

Campus sanitization was done on 29th January 2021 in view of prevention of Covid. Each and

every class room was sprinkled with sanitizing solution.

As a token of reverence to our father of nation, M.K Gandhi, the principal and the staff members

paid homage on the occasion of his death anniversary.
