LAST GAME | 11/25/20 vs. Mercyhurst (Exhibition)

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women’s basketball team raced out to a quick start and never let up as three Bulls scored in double figures in a 85-49 victory over Mercyhurst on Wednesday afternoon.

Buffalo was led by sophomore Dyaisha Fair who recorded a double-double with 28 points and 11 boards to go along with five steals. Keowa Walters added a double-double of her own with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Hanna Hall also scored in double figures with 12 points and Adebola Adeyeye added seven points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

The Buffalo offense was clicking early and often as the Bulls jumped out to a 14-4 lead at the first media timeout courtesy of back-to-back three’s by Fair and Hall. The offense would continue to flow as the Bulls closed the quarter on a 12-2 run to take a 20-6 lead at the end of the first.

Walters got things going with two early buckets to spark a 4-0 run to start the second quarter. After another triple from Fair and an easy lay in from Walters, UB took a 29-13 lead at the media timeout. A pair of three’s by Fair and Hall would give the Bulls a 34-14 lead at the 3:39 mark and UB would close the half on a 10-0 run, capped by buckets by Adeyeye, Zena Elias and Ramatoulaye Keita, to take a 42-16 lead at the break.

Mercyhurst started the third quarter with a quick 4-0 run but a triple by Fair stopped the run and the Bulls took a 49-27 lead at the media timeout. The Bulls would start to turn defense into offense as Adeyeye found Walters in transition before Walters came up with the and threw it ahead to Hall who found Fair for the easy lay in to give UB a 52-36 lead. Loren Christie broke onto the stat sheet with a long triple from the top of the key and UB took a 63-38 lead at the end of three quarters of play.

After an early second chance three by Fair to start the fourth quarter the Lakers would use a 6-0 run to cut the UB lead to 49-29 at the final media timeout. The Bulls would extend their lead to 25 on a fastbreak layup by Fair and an offensive putback from Walters. Mercyhurst trimmed the lead back to 18 at the 2:07 mark but that would be as close as they would get as the UB closed the game on a 7-0 run to secure the victory.

The Bulls stuck to their core values as they dominated the glass, outrebounding the Lakers 61-33, and the paint, doubling up Mercyhurst inside 36-18, while also scoring 28 points off of 19 Lakers turnovers. UB showed its depth as well as eight players found the scoring column on the day.

Buffalo will return to action when it opens the season on November 30 at James Madison. Tipoff is set for 4pm.
