Festival Program Message from the Lord Mayor

Law Week is your chance to go behind the scenes of our legal system and discover the answers to your niggling legal questions.

Mock trials, court tours, talks and panel discussions will take place at various locations across and , with the Festival Hub once again located in Federation Square.

As a law graduate, I know how interesting the inner workings of the legal system can be and this community event is a terrific way to gain more knowledge around the intricacies of the law.

The City of Melbourne is a long running and proud sponsor of Law Week and I congratulate the Victoria Law Foundation on this year’s dynamic program.

I encourage all Victorians to delve in and find out more about a system that can have such a huge impact on our everyday lives.

Sally Capp Lord Mayor Welcome From the Foundation Executive Director

Victoria Law Foundation is thrilled to present Law Week 2019!

Our annual festival is bigger than ever and we are proud to extend to new locations in suburban Melbourne and regional Victoria.

From helping gender diverse people change their ID to talking about how we tackle family violence, our event partners are helping Victorians engage with the law in important ways.

The festival is also tremendously enjoyable! Explore our courts, participate in a mock trial, catch a film, tune in to a podcast and eat a sausage cooked by a judge! And don’t forget to stop by the Law Week Hub at Fed Square which is active Monday to Thursday during Law Week. Meet people from Victoria’s legal community, visit a pop-up and grab some info.

On Saturday, Courts Open Day returns — a fabulous opportunity to learn about the courts system and see the law in action, with plenty of fun activities to keep the kids entertained.

And on Sunday, the first ever Law Week Parliament Open Day! Visit areas normally off-limits and learn about our parliamentary system straight from the source.

Keep up to date at lawweek.net.au. There is something for everyone. We look forward to seeing you there.

Lynne Haultain Executive Director
