2009 Nassau County Figure Skating Championships May 15th - May 17th, 2009 Welcome to the Trophy Cup Championships! The ice surface at Cantiague Park rink measures 85 feet wide by 185 feet long, and has rounded corners. The Nassau County Championships are open to all eligible members of the United States Figure Skating Association, and will be governed by the rules set forth below, or in the 2009 USFSA rulebook. Members of other organizations are eligible to com- pete but must be registered with the host Basic Skills Program/Club or any other Basic Skills Program/Club. The Cantiague FSC reserves the right to sub divide any event if necessary, and to cancel any event if there are fewer than two entries. It is our intent to have separate events for females and males. However, if necessary, we reserve the right to combine males and females in these events. This is a non- qualifying competition. Skaters may enter as many events as they are qualified for and may skate up one level from their current test level, except in Basic Skills events and as noted. Competition Information

Entries: Entries must be postmarked by April 10, 2009. Once entries are closed, entry fees are only refundable if the event or competition is not held. Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the competition committee, and may require an additional fee. Judging: 6.0 Judging Will Be Used For All Events. Payment: We accept checks and money orders. There will be a $30 fee for all returned checks. Schedules: A schedule will be available on the Cantiague FSC web site, WWW.CFSCSKATINGCLUB.ORG as soon as possible after the close of the entries. Schedules will not be mailed. Practice Ice: Practice ice is available on a limited basis . Confirmation of practice ice assignment will be by e-mail. Music: CD’s must be clearly marked with the skaters name and event, and turned in to the registration desk at least one hour prior to the event. It is advisable to have a back up CD available. Beginner events: Basic Skills competitors will receive trophies. Video Taping: The competition will be taped by a professional videographer. If you use your own camera, it must be battery

powered . No tripods or flash photography will be permitted.

Event Information:

Interpretive: Skaters will be judged on interpretation of the rhythm and character of the music, edges, footwork, and timing of the jumps and spins. Music will be chosen by the Local Organizing Committee and will be age appropriate. Music will be played three times. Coaching is not permitted. No double jumps will be allowed regardless of level. The program time for all levels will be 1-2 minutes. Groups will be divided according to Freeskate Test Level Boys and Girls may be grouped together. Showcase: Emphasis is placed on the illustration of the character through music, costume, props and overall audience appeal. Props are limited to those that the skater can carry or push onto the ice themselves in one trip. Props may not be flame oriented or alive. Decorations on apparel must be securely fastened. No objects may be left on the ice after the skater is finished. No objects may be thrown into the audience. Violations of these rules will result in disqualification. Basic Skills: Eligibility will be based on skill level as of closing date of entries. All SNOWPLOW SAM and BASIC SKILLS SKATERS THROUGH BASIC 8 must skate at highest level passed and NO official U.S. Figure Skating tests may have been passed including MIF or Individual Dances. Please have your instructor sign the Certification of Eligibility on the Entry Form.

Competitors will skate to music of their choice. Deductions WILL be made for skaters including technical elements not permitted in the event description. All program times listed are +/-10 seconds

Senior Test Skaters must have passed at least the US Figure Skating Junior Freeskate Test

1. Four spins (minimum 6 revolutions on all solo spins), one must be a flying spin, one solo spin (6 revolutions each), one spin combination consisting of all three positions and one change of foot (minimum 2 in each position and minimum 5 revolutions on each foot) 2. At least four different double jumps and one must be a double Lutz 3. Jump combinations and sequences allowed 4. Maximum 8 jumping elements for men and 7 for ladies 5. Two different for men and one step sequence and one spiral sequence for ladies (see Rule TR 32.08 for description)

Junior Test Skaters must have passed at least the US Figure Skating Novice Freeskate Test but may not have passed tests higher than the Junior Freeskate test

1. Three spins -one must be a flying spin, a solo spin (6 revolutions each), and a combination spin consisting of all three positions and one change of foot (minimum 2 in each position and minimum 5 revolutions on each foot 2. Any single jumps 3. Double jumps may only be the double Salchow, double toe loop, double loop, and double flip 4. Jump combinations and sequences allowed 5. Maximum 8 jumping elements for men and 7 for ladies 6. Two different step sequence for men and one step sequence and one spiral sequence for ladies (see Rule TR 32.07 for description)

Novice Test

Skaters must have passed at least the US Figure Skating Intermediate Freeskate Test but may not have passed tests higher than the Novice Freeskate test

1. Three spins in any position (minimum 6 revolutions), one must be a combination spin with at least one change of foot (minimum 5 revolutions on each foot). May include flying spins 2. Any single jumps 3. Double jumps may only be the double Salchow, double toe loop and double loop 4. Jump combinations and sequences allowed 5. Maximum 7 jumping elements 6. Intermediate Test

Skaters must have passed at least the US Figure Skating Juvenile Freeskate Test but may not have passed tests higher than the Intermediate Freeskate test

1. Three spins in any position (minimum 4 revolutions), one must be a combination spin with at least one change of foot (minimum 4 revolutions on each foot). May include flying spins 2. Any single jumps 3. Double jumps may only be the double Salchow and the double toe loop 4. Jump combinations and sequences allowed 5. Maximum 6 jumping elements 6. One step sequence straight line, circular, or serpentine fully utilizing ice surface

Juvenile Test

Skaters must have passed at least the US Figure Skating Pre-Juvenile Freeskate Test but may not have passed tests higher than the Juvenile Freeskate test

1. Three spins in any position (minimum 4 revolutions), one must be a combination spin with one change of foot optional (minimum 4 revolutions on each foot). May include flying spins 2. Any single jumps and jump combinations with not more than 1-1/2 rotations (Axel permitted). 3. Maximum 6 jumping elements 4. One step sequence straight line, circular, or serpentine fully utilizing ice surface

Time: 2:15 Pre-Juvenile Test

Skaters must have passed at least the US Figure Skating Preliminary Freeskate Test but may not have passed tests higher than the Pre-Juvenile Freeskate test 1. Three spins in any position (minimum 4 revolutions), one must be a combination spin with change of foot optional (minimum 3 revolutions on each foot or 6 total revolutions and no flying spins) 2. Jumps with not more than one rotation (no Axels). 3. Jump combinations and sequences are allowed 4. Maximum 6 jumping elements 5. One step sequence straight line, circular, or serpentine fully utilizing ice surface

Preliminary Test

Skaters must have passed at least the US Figure Skating Pre-Preliminary Freeskate Test but may not have passed tests higher than the Preliminary Freeskate test

1. At least two spins of a different nature, combination spins allowed (minimum 3 revolutions each and no flying spings) 2. Jumps with not more than one rotation (no Axels). 3. Jump combinations and sequences are allowed 4. Maximum 5 jumping elements 5. Connecting moves and steps should be demonstrated throughout the program

Pre-Preliminary Test

Skaters may NOT have passed tests higher than US Figure Skating Basic Skills Pre-Preliminary Freeskate , Skills up to and including Freeskate 6 1. At least two solo spins of a different nature (minimum 3 revolutions and no flying spins) 2. All single jumps allowed (no Axels) 3. Jump combinations or sequences using only a waltz jump, toe loop, and Salchow. 4. Connecting moves and steps should be demonstrated throughout the program

Time: 1:30 Beginner Test

Skaters may NOT have passed tests higher than US Figure Skating Basic Skills Freeskate badge tests Skills up to and including Freeskate 3 1. Solo spins in an upright position (minimum 3 revolutions) 2. Jumps with not more than one-half rotation (front to back or back to front) 3. Single rotation jumps: Salchow and toe loop only. No combination jumps or jump sequences 4. Connecting moves and steps should be demonstrated throughout the program

SPIN CHALLENGE

There is no music played for this event. Beginner through Intermediate will skate on half ice. Spins should be skated exactly as stated, and in this order. Skaters will be given one opportunity to perform each spin. This is not a “mini-program”. Only the stroking and edging necessary to prepare for the spin will be allowed. At the conclusion of the warm-up period, the first skater will present each spin in the stated order. The process will then be repeated for all subsequent skaters. Skaters must wait for the Announcer to give the signal to begin.

Groups will be divided according to Freeskate Test Level Girls and Boys may be grouped together.

Accidents (CR10.12): The USFSA and the clubs or organizers of competitions undertake no responsibility for damages or injuries suffered by the skaters or officials. As a condition of and in consideration of the acceptance of their entries or participation therein, all entrants, their parents and guardians and officials shall be deemed to agree to assume all risks of injury to their person and property resulting from, caused by or connected with, the conduct and management of the competition, and to waive and release any and all claims which they may have against any officials, the USFSA, the club hosting the competition, and against its Officers, and their entries shall be accepted only on such condition.

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABLILTY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND INDEMINITY AGREEMENT (“AGREEMENT”)

In consideration of participating in Cantiague Figure Skating Club Activities, I represent that I understand the nature of figure skating activities (“activity”) and that I am qualified, in good health and in proper physical condition to participate in such “activity”. I acknowledge that if I believe event conditions are unsafe, I will immediately discontinue participation in the “activity”.

I fully understand that this “activity” involves risks of serious bodily injury, including permanent disability, paralysis and death, which may be caused by own actions, or inactions, those of others participating in the “activity”, the conditions in which the activity takes place, or the negligence of the “releasees” named below; that there may be other risks either not known to me or not readily foreseeable at this time; and I fully accept and assume all such risks and all responsibility for losses, costs, and dam- ages I incur as a result of my participation in the “activity”.

I hereby release, discharge, and covenant not to sue the Cantiague Figure Skating Club, United States Figure Skating, it’s direc- tors, officers, administrators, sponsors, volunteers, agents, employees, staff, instructors, trainers, other participants, if applicable, owners, lessors of premises on which “activity” takes place (each considered one of the Releasees herein) from all liability, claims, demands, losses, the damages on my account caused or alleged to be caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the “releasees” or otherwise, including negligent rescue operation; and I further agree that if, despite this release, waiver of liability, and assumption of risk, I, or anyone on my behalf, makes a claim against any of the Releasees, that I will indemnify, save and hold harmless each of the releasees from any loss, liability, damage, or cost which any may incur as the result of such claim.

The Cantiague Figure Skating Club has the right, but not the obligation, to provide rules, regulations and/or ice monitors for the Club Ice. We hereby acknowledge that the Cantiague Figure Skating Club shall not be responsible for the supervision of the members at Club Ice.

I have read this RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK, AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT, understand that I have given up substantial rights by signing it and have freely and without inducement or assurance of any na- ture and intend it to be a complete and unconditional release of all liability to the greatest extent allowed by law and agree that if any portion of this agreement is held to be invalid, the balance, not withstanding, shall continue in full force and effect. I have also read and agree to follow the Club ice rules on the back of this waiver.

2009 TROPHY CUP PRACTICE ICE REQUEST FORM

PRACTICE ICE: All practice ice applications must be returned by mail, postmarked by May 1, 2009. Spaces will be filled according to postmark date and the order in which the request forms are received. Telephone or e-mail request cannot be guaranteed until payment is received. The cost for each 30 minute session is $15.00. The club reserves the right to cancel or combine any undersold sessions. In addition, please be aware that the time for practice ice might need to be changed to accommodate the competition schedule. If it is changed, you will be contacted and given the option of a refund or change of time.
