THE SEMI FINAL: What a stunning day – never has Shore Road Reserve looked so good and all credit to Groundsman Dave Keane for preparing an excellent pitch and to his wife, Carol, who mowed the outfield in immaculate fashion. The outfield particularly – mown close, it was fast and true – a factor hugely appreciated by the players who could swoop on the ball with confidence. For instance , for Suburbs, effected an astonishing runout and, late in the game, our Flynn McGregor-Sumpter did likewise. Thank you Dave and Carol!! All this was hugely appreciated by the large crowd present who were treated to some marvellous cricket - Craig Speakman’s photos tell much of the story. Pundits thought we were 20 runs short as only Flynn and Aniket really got going with the bat and, in the closing stages of our innings, desperate scampers resulted in four runouts! Such shortfalls were offset by our exceedingly positive attitude in the field – very sharp, some superb catches – Andy Lane’s in the deep exceptional – and accurate, hostile . Ollie with 2 wickets was superb and well backed by Ganesh - to dismiss Majithia, Raval and Barry for 0, 4 and 5 respectively and only 24 on the board was brilliant. Josh was a little more expensive but he picked up two wickets. Our spinners kept it tight – Nikith, still 17 years old, only had 6 runs taken off his first two overs – at a time Suburbs had to up the pace. Aniket took over – equally economical and then Fanie bowled with fire to deliver the coup de grace. All this backed by exceptional fielding and we wish our Prems success in Monday’s Final against Takapuna. NOTE: Parnell has never won the T20 Championship. Craig’s photos follow from recent weeks:

From left: Flynn McGregor-Sumpter Andy Lane Skipper Brad Rodden Above are our three top T20 scorers – Flynn 196 runs @ 28.00, highest score 91. Andy has 141 runs @ 28.20 and highest score 52*. Skipper Brad has scored 140 @ 23.33 with 33* his highest score.

And our T20 bowlers:

Ollie has taken 10 wickets @ 7.10 ER 4.18 Ganesh – one of his 9 wickets with this ball - @ 8.67 ER 5.2

Josh – leading T20 taker with 15 @ 11.07 ER 5.72 Fanie – 8 wickets @ 13.50 ER 6.35

Our spinners - Aniket has taken 10 wickets @ 13.60 ER 4.58 and 17 year old Nikith, with limited opportunities, 3 wickets at 22.67 ER 6.20 Photo of Nikith is of him, vs Howick Pakuranga, delivering the ball that bowled their leading bat, Brian Barnard just as he had done in the Semi Final last season.

Not forgetting ‘keeper Harry Amongst the spectators:

Presidents’ Grade 18 January PARNELL 185/8 lost to SRI LANKA WARRIORS 186/1 by 9 wickets at Riversdale Reserve SKIPPER CHRIS LAYCOCK REPORTING: Injuries, poor form and bad luck see us poised towards the bottom end of the table post Xmas whilst SLW are sat comfortably at the top. Having chosen to bat on a bumpy old Riversdale Reserve our goal was to score 100 by drinks and push on after drinks to set a decent total for a very good batting opposition. John (30 off 24) and I (45 off 55) made a good start against their quick bowlers with 68 coming off the first 10 overs, but 14 very good overs of slowed the run rate and cost us 4 wickets. Neil batted well for 43 off 48 and Greg, Keith and Mark Andrews all chimed in to set a below par 185/8 Our usually reliable bowling attack was a bit sloppy today, Evan took a wicket in the first over and Greg went for less than 5’s otherwise we got a bit schooled. We were back off to the Mike Simpson lounge to lick our wounds and rehydrate after only 25 overs and one lonely wicket.
