Washington Capitals 2019 Prospects Showcase Guide Ford Ice Center • Antioch, Tennessee September 7-10, 2019 Capitals Prospects Showcase Notes The Washington Capitals will compete in a four-team prospect showcase to be held at Ford Ice Center in Antioch, Tenn., from Sept. 7-10. The 2019 Prospects Showcase will also feature top prospects from the Nashville Predators, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Carolina Hurricanes. Capitals prospects will face each team once in the round robin showcase. The Capitals’ tournament roster includes prospects who are under contract and recent Capitals draft picks who have not been signed yet. In addition, several undrafted and free agent amateur players will participate. Each game will feature three 20 minute periods, followed by a shootout, regardless of the score. Video of each game will be lived streamed by visiting WashingtonCaps.com, as well as audio only broadcasts on Caps Radio 24/7. Alexeyev was named the Player of the Week from Oct. 22 to Oct. 28 after recording eight points (3g, 5a) in four games and was named the Red Deer Advocate Male Athlete of the Year in March, an award that recognizes amateur athletes for their success in sports. Additionally, the Capitals’ 2018 first round selection (31st overall) helped Team Russia win a bronze medal in the World Junior Championship, recording six points (2g, 4a) in seven games. Kristofers Bindulis Defenseman (84) Signed with WSH as a Free Agent on March 7, 2017 Bindulis played in four games for the Hershey Bears during the 2018-19 season before missing the remainder of the season with an upper body injury. During the 2017-18 season, Bindulis appeared in 12 games for the Bears, recording an assist, and 34 games for the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL, recording 15 points (4g, 11a). Kody Clark Right Wing (71) Drafted by WSH in the second round, 47th overall, in the 2018 NHL Draft Clark appeared in 57 games for the Ottawa 67’s in the OHL last season, recording 46 points (17g, 29a). Clark added another 14 points (5g, 9a) in 18 playoff games. Clark is the son of Wendel Clark, who was drafted first overall in the 1985 NHL Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs and amassed 564 points (330g, 234a) in 793 games between the Maple Leafs, the Quebec Nordiques, the Detroit Red Wings, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Chicago Blackhawks. Martin Fehervary Defenseman (42) Drafted by WSH in the second round, 46th overall, in the 2018 NHL Draft Fehervary registered seven points (1g, 6a) for HV-71 in the Swedish Hockey League in 45 games during the 2018- 2019 season. Fehervary also captained Team Slovakia during the World Junior Championship, recording five points (1g, 4a) in five games. He was named a top three player on Slovakia during the tournament. Additionally, Fehervary represented Slovakia during the 2019 IIHF World Championship, recording an assist in seven games. Eric Florchuk Center (58) Drafted by WSH in the seventh round, 217th overall, in the 2018 NHL Draft Florchuk recorded 50 points (21g, 29a) in 68 games with the Saskatoon Blades in the WHL. The Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., native ranked fourth on the Blades in goals and fifth in points. Washington Capitals 2019 Prospects Showcase Guide Tobias Geisser Defenseman (46) Drafted by WSH in the fourth round, 120th overall, in the 2017 NHL Draft Geisser played in 41 games last season for the Hershey Bears in the AHL, recording an assist. The defenseman from Stans, Switzerland, was named to Team Switzerland for the 2019 World Junior Championship, the second time he had been named to Switzerland’s World Junior team (2018). In 2018, he was named as one of the top three players for Switzerland. Shane Gersich Left Wing (63) Drafted by WSH in the fifth round, 134th overall, in the 2014 NHL Draft Gersich recorded 24 points (8g, 16a) in 66 games in his first professional season with the Hershey Bears last season. Gersich added another three points (1g, 2a) in nine playoff games with the Bears. He led Bears rookies in power play goals (2) and ranked second in points per game (0.36) among Hershey rookies with at least 10 games played. Axel Jonsson-Fjallby Left Wing (45) Drafted by WSH in the fifth round, 147th overall, in the 2016 NHL Draft Jonsson-Fjallby played in 16 games with the Hershey Bears last season, recording three points (2g,1a). Jonsson- Fjallby was loaned to Djurgardens IF in the Swedish Hockey League on Nov. 13, 2018, where he recorded 10 points (1g, 9a) in 36 games in the SHL. Alex Kannok-Leipert Defenseman (53) Drafted by WSH in the sixth round, 161st overall, in the 2018 NHL Draft Kannok-Leipert recorded 19 points (5g, 14a) and 93 penalty minutes in 67 games for the Vancouver Giants of the WHL. Kannok-Leipert added another 12 points (2g, 10a) in 22 playoff games, helping Vancouver reach the WHL Final. Brett Leason Right Wing (49) Drafted by WSH in the second round, 56th overall, in the 2019 NHL Draft Leason registered 89 points (36g, 53a) in 55 games with the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League (WHL) last season, where he led them in points and ranked eighth in the WHL. Additionally, Leason received the E.J. McGuire Award of Excellence this year, presented annually by the NHL to a prospect who best exemplifies commitment to excellence through strength of character, competitiveness and athleticism. Washington Capitals 2019 Prospects Showcase Guide Beck Malenstyn Left Wing (47) Drafted by WSH in the fifth round, 145th overall, in the 2016 NHL Draft Malenstyn recorded 16 points (7g, 9a) in 74 games with the Hershey Bears last season. Malenstyn ranked third among first year players on the Bears in points and shots. Connor McMichael Center (24) Drafted by WSH in the first round, 25th overall, in the 2019 NHL Draft McMichael spent the 2018-19 season with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He ranked second on London with 72 points (36g, 36a) in 67 games and recorded five points (2g, 3a) in 11 playoff games. McMichael was selected for Team Canada’s Development Camp this summer. Bobby Nardella Defenseman (88) Signed with WSH as a free agent on April 5, 2019 Nardella played in 38 games for The University of Notre Dame in the NCAA, recording 34 points (8g, 26a). Nardella became the first defenseman to lead Notre Dame in points in the program’s history. He was named to the Big 10 First All-Star Team and was a Hobey Baker Award nominee. Additionally, Nardella made his debut with the Hershey Bears last season, playing in two games. Garrett Pilon Center (40) Drafted by WSH in the third round, 87th overall, in the 2016 NHL Draft Pilon led first year players on the Hershey Bears with 33 points (10g, 23a) in 71 games and was tied for fourth in assists. Pilon is the son of Rich Pilon, who recorded 77 points (8g, 69a) in 631 career games between the New York Islanders, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues. Brian Pinho Center (64) Drafted by WSH in the sixth round, 174th overall, in the 2013 NHL Draft Pinho recorded 12 points (4g, 8a) in 73 games in his first season with the Hershey Bears last season. Pinho scored the series-clinching overtime goal against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in Game 5 to advance the Bears to the second round.
