Montreal (February 7, 2018) –WE Day, a powerful day of inspiration celebrating youth creating sustainable change returns to deliver words of hope and optimism—a message the world needs now more than ever. To kick-start this series of international events, WE Day announces the initial list of speakers and performers attending WE Day Montreal on February 21, 2018, followed by Journée UNIS Montréal on February 22, 2018 at Théâtre Saint-Denis. Alongside partners led by National Co-Title Sponsors RBC and TELUS, WE Day Montreal will host 2,000 engaged youth and educators coming together to change the world.

Taking the stage is a cast of compelling speakers, dynamic performers and innovative thought leaders, including singer-songwriter duo Abby and Sarah, Celebrity Marauders, Lisa Charleyboy, Kayla Diamond, Shawn Hook, David Patchell-Evans, Carol Todd, Alexandre Trudeau, Ty Waters, Sarah Wells, Spencer West and more. Hosted by reporter for CTV’s Etalk and E! Host, Chloe Wilde, and Canadian TV host of Face au mur and Maripier!, Maripier Morin, along with youth co-hosts Hannah Alper and Tai Young, this inspiring lineup will be joined by international activist and WE co-founder, Craig Kielburger. Together they will share their passion for change and energize the crowd with unforgettable performances and motivational speeches to define a stronger world—this year and beyond—and what people of all ages can do to make this dream a reality.

“The young people at WE Day Montreal understand that they can’t be complacent; their strength and generosity is the way to drive change,” said filmmaker, journalist and author, Alexandre Trudeau. “By coming together to celebrate their incredible acts of kindness and compassion, we have the chance to experience firsthand the impact the next generation of youth continue to have as they navigate bravely through the obstacles of today’s world.”

More than a one-day event, WE Day is connected to the free, yearlong educational program WE Schools. Providing schools and community groups with curriculum, educational resources and action campaigns, the program is designed to enhance a school’s existing social initiatives or spark new ones. WE Schools encourages students to further their curricular learning and develop life skills for success beyond the classroom.

In the 2016/2017 school year, schools and groups across Quebec improved their communities through WE Schools, volunteering more than 145,000 hours and raising over $720,000 in support of more than 195 local and global causes including hunger, poverty, environment and bullying. An example of this is St. Thomas High School in Pointe Claire, Quebec. The students and educators at this school set a goal to raise $10,000 to help support access to clean water in Ecuador. In just a year, they have raised over $2,000 to support the project through WE Are Silent—a campaign where students take a vow of silence to turn up the volume on the struggles of young people fighting for their basic human rights.

“We are surrounded by youth of the WE generation. A generation that is tuned-in to the needs of their community both globally and locally – it’s truly remarkable. They have committed to choosing hope, optimism, empathy and courage over fear, division, apathy and intolerance,” said Craig Kielburger, co- founder of WE. “During WE Day, we are honoured to celebrate the young people from over 230 schools and youth groups from across Quebec, who have joined together to make a difference and prove that you are never too young to help change the world.”

WE Day is free of charge to students and educators across Canada, thanks to the generous support of partners led by National Co-Title Sponsors RBC and TELUS. Students can’t buy a ticket to WE Day— youth from across the country earn their way by the actions they take on one local and one global cause of their choice.

WE Day is supported in Montreal by Paul Desmarais III, Vice President, Power Financial & Power Corporation; David Bensadoun and Isabelle Poirier, CEO of ALDO and philanthropist, Catherine Turner, philanthropist.
