Homeward Bound Theatre Company and Mounds View Schools Community Education are offering incoming 4th - 10th grade girls and boys an opportunity to be part of the musical theater production of “The Adventures of Dr. Dolittle”. The camp will take place at Mounds View High School in Arden Hills from July 11 - August 5. With performances on August 4 for friends and family along with a private performance on August 5 for district Summer Y-Care participants.

“Who would have believed that animals have their own side of things?” One very special doctor with a deep understanding and love of animals finds he is able to speak with them. This one moment of comprehension is a light that carries John Dolittle, M.D. from one adventure to the next. Doctor Dolittle, Polynesia the parrot, Gug,Gub the pig, Jip the dog, Dab-Dab the duck and Chee-Chee the monkey travel to Africa to save the monkeys from a terrible plague. Once there, they are captured and escape from the Jolliginki who want to serve them for dinner, elude misguided pirates who want to ransom them, and discover wild and wonderful never before seen animals. Even the famous African cannibal food critic, Mimi Eataton, makes an appearance!

Students will learn all aspects of theater, set design, props, costuming, make-up, acting, singing and movement from a professional theater director, production manager, and choreographer. Camp will run with a minimum of 20 students. Auditions will be held during the first week of camp. Everyone gets a part! There will be a short parent meeting at 4 pm on Monday, July 11. Parents are encouraged to attend.

Each student will receive 4 complementary tickets to the play. Additional ticket may be purchased at the door, $2 for children/students and $4 for adults.

LAURENTIAN ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER FORKORN CAMP

Classes are taught by Laurentian Environmental Center’s (LEC) professional teaching staff who hold Minnesota Firearms Safety, Minnesota Bowhunter Education, and Advanced Hunter Education Instructor Certifications. Mentors, those who have graduated from all three Forkhorn camps, are unique to the LEC program and provide knowledge and assistance to students throughout the week. Evening activities such a rock wall climbing, swimming, fishing and canoeing are offered to students. Parents can participate at no additional cost, however; if they would like to obtain a certification, they must pay a small fee to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Participants must be at least 11 years old by the first day of camp.

Nothing to do this summer? If you’re 14 years or above, why not take Drivers Education DURING THE SUMMER to free you up during the school year.

This 36-hour program will be conducted by a certified instructor from Teens Driving School, Inc. , and will fulfill the state driver’s education requirement. The classroom portion of the course is 30 hours and will consist of lecture and discussion. Students will be taught defensive driving techniques and the “not to” and “whys” of safe driving. After completion of the program, students will be able to set up and participate in behind the wheel sessions to meet the six hour state requirement.

Teens Inc. has developed several programs that deal with young drivers at a level they understand. They have compiled hundreds of hours of research into the actions and tendencies of teen drivers so they can deliver message that will impact the way they operate a vehicle. The Teens Inc. curriculum includes education in a variety of other areas such as the financial impact of poor driving, at-fault accidents, liability, and others to illustrate to young drivers the consequences they could face when operating a vehicle.

PrePre----RegistrationRegistration Is Required Register by May 15 and SAVE $10 per class! Classes fill quickly, so register early! Do not send registrations to your students school. Classes may be canceled one week prior to the start date if sufficient enrollment is not received. Help us avoid the disappointment of class cancellations by registering early.

Refunds Refund requests must be received a minimum of 7 business days prior to the start of the activity for a full refund. After that time no refunds will be issued. If an activity is canceled by Community Education, you will receive a full refund.

Where Are the Classes Held? Please check each class for locations. For the safety of your children, we ask that parents come into the building to drop your children off and pick them up again. Students will be released from the classroom to parents, they are not allowed to wait out front or in the entryways.

Scholarships* Scholarships are available to students that attend schools in the Mounds View School District. MV School District. Students who receive free or reduced lunch will receive 50% off the price of one camp or activity.
