Carlisle is The Natural Choice, and you can quickly see why we are so proud of our community by searching for Carlisle, IA, Aerial Footage on You Tube. From the opening views of Carlisle Community Schools, to residential neighborhoods and business areas, downtown, and around town, you will see the abundant, lush views of our natural beauty that is the backdrop of our lives here. This is a community you and your family will be glad to call home. We have moved, over the last few years, from a small rural community to a thriving and growing suburb. We have retained the small town friendliness that encourages you to know your neighbors, and get involved with the community, while you and your family enjoy a comfortable, active lifestyle. As Mayor, I, as well as all of those working or volunteering in your city government, work every day to provide the high level of customer service you deserve, maintain a fiscally responsible, efficient government that delivers the services we are responsible for, while maintaining the safe environment, clean water, and amenities you, our citizens require. Our high-quality school system is large enough to offer a broad array of choices and yet small enough for all students to get the education they need to be prepared for their futures. Students have the opportunity to participate in the activities of their choice, and we are pleased that families and neighbors get involved and support our students. We are proud of the fact that ‘generation after generation of families’ have been educated there. As for example, my own family, we are in our 4th generation. We are proud of, and encourage you to support, our local businesses. With our 1% Local Option Sales Tax it makes a bigger difference than ever when we do business in Carlisle and Warren County. No doubt the 1% will cost you less than a trip outside the county, and the money collected adds up and is spent right here. It is earmarked to improve streets and sidewalks in Carlisle, and fund our public safety department, which is good for all of us. We also invite you to help shape the future of Carlisle by getting involved in your neighborhood, local government, the school system, the church of your choice and other activities and organizations that you enjoy. We are proud of our trail system, and hope you and your family make it a healthy habit to get out and hike or bike, play in the parks, participate in our local events, and take in the beauty of our area. We are “Carlisle, The Natural Choice” and we are glad you are here. There are more good things on the way for Carlisle and her residents. The schools vision, goals and competencies will help students get the education they need to succeed in their own futures. Home Based Iowa will help our Veterans find a place to be productive and a home in Carlisle. We are working to bring jobs and large and small businesses to Carlisle. This is an exciting time for Carlisle. Join us as we work together, with our focus on families and friends, to make a positive difference right here where we live. Drew Merrifield, Mayor

There is pride in our schools, city hall, city departments, our trails and attractions and our one-of-a-kind businesses. Carlisle has an ideal location, bordering Des Moines, and located on 4-lane divided highways through Warren and Polk Counties with quick access to air and rail service, and the metro’s retail, dining, sports and entertainment experiences. Residents can expect shorter trips than from almost any other suburb in the metro to the Des Moines International Airport, Jordan Creek Mall, Interstates 35 and 80, and most other points of interest in the metro. You can see downtown Des Moines from Carlisle. Carlisle is close to everything! Small Town Atmosphere Between 2000 and 2010, Carlisle’s population grew by ten percent and is on track to meet and even break that statistic by 2020. Both Carlisle and Warren County outpace Iowa and the nation in population growth. And yet, with everything that is happening, Carlisle continues to maintain its small-town atmosphere. People call each other by name. The Farmer’s Market brings town and rural folks together. The latest news is exchanged in the lobby of the bank or the post office. The city is full of friendly people who know each other and are always welcoming to newcomers in the community. As new businesses arrive offering fine products and services to residents of Carlisle, our neighbors to the South, as well as many in the Des Moines Metro, are stopping in Carlisle to do business, enjoy good food and enjoy our small-town festivals. With our convenient location on Highway 5 and the Purple Heart Highway, more and more people are likely to say “That wasn’t as far as I thought!
