Thema new national extensions - April 2017 This is the list of additions and updates to the national extensions for the April 2017 update of Thema 1.2. These were approved by the Thema International Steering Committee at the meeting at London Book Fair on March 15th, 2017. They consist of a range of additional national extension qualifiers for France, Ireland, French-Canada and the U.K.

Within the tables, additions are in red, any changes and clarifications in teal and unchanged text is black.

For France, there has been a change in the structure of the codes to allow the insertion of the new French regions. So, all 7 of the new French regions now have codes plus a new parent code (1DDF- FR-X) and the 6 regions that remain unchanged are now also child codes of 1DDF-FR-X and so all 13 regions can be seen together on the browser. This has the effect of moving certain codes down one level in the hierarchy but no existing code has been changed. The old regions that have been absorbed by new larger regions have also become ‘children’ of the new region codes. For example, (1DDF-FR-A) is now a ‘child’ of Grand-Est (1DDF-FR-XE) but it’s code has not changed. This process is the same as we used for Tibet. It means the hierarchical structure is not predictable from the code for these national extensions. Therefore, the spreadsheet version has a column called parent to show the correct hierarchical structure.
