Economic Development Master Plan City of Dunedin, Florida 2013-2023 May 2013 FINAL APPROVED VERSION City Commission Mayor Dave Eggers Vice Mayor Julie Ward Bujalski Commissioner Julie Scales Commissioner Ron Barnette Commissioner Heather Gracy City Staff City Manager Robert DiSpirito Director of Economic & Housing Development, Robert Ironsmith 2 CITY OF DUNEDIN “Dedicated to Quality Service” P.O. BOX 1348 DUNEDIN, FL 34697-1348 (727) 298-3000 WEB SITE: www.dunedingov.com DATE: May, 2013 TO: City Commission FROM: Robert DiSpirito, City Manager SUBJECT: Revised Economic Development Master Plan for the City of Dunedin ___________________________________________________________________________ My staff and I are pleased to present to the Commission for your consideration the final draft of the City’s Economic Development Master plan. The purpose of this plan is to offer a framework for discussing options and strategies available to the City as we seek to achieve a stable source of revenues with which to support the core services that we provide to this community. In light of the declining economy these last five years, the importance of stabilizing and improving our revenues has only grown, particularly for sustaining the General Fund as it pays for Fire/Rescue, Sheriff’s contract, Parks & Recreation, the Library, Planning & Development and a number of other key services. From the beginning, our approach has been to not hire an outside consultant to write or assist with the development of an economic plan. Rather, I felt that we had the expertise and experience available in-house with talented professionals who know Dunedin and its current challenges well. Thus, this report was authored primarily by our Director of Economic & Housing Development, Bob Ironsmith, with assistance by Director of Planning & Development Greg Rice, and me.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 • MICROSOFT THEATER MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN/CEO o say that television changed my life is not an exaggeration. In fact, it may be an understatement. This industry has allowed me to travel the world, meet extraordinary people, even win some awards — including seven Emmys. But without question, serving as Television Academy chairman was one of the high Tpoints of my career. It was a privilege to help guide this organization during a period of dynamic change, and I am proud of what our leadership accomplished during that time. Among my priorities as chairman was to increase diversity and inclusion in the television industry. The same is true of my work as a producer, which allows me to advocate in a more immediate and personal way for inclusion by creating opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to share their talents and advance their own careers. In this respect, as in many others, my personal values are in alignment with those of the Academy, and as I reflect on 2018, I am pleased to note the continuation of many positive steps within the Academy during the Emmy Awards’ 70th anniversary year. One example: When we heard from members and programmers that, with so many shows in the Emmy mix, they wanted additional FYC events to provide voters and creators more opportunities to engage prior to the balloting period, we increased the number of FYC events from sixty-one in 2017 to more than a hundred by opening up weekends and allowing more than one event on a single night.

Sixty government leaders — includ- ing President Reagan — expressed support for the peace summit, the first event of its type in history. In the Italian hill town of Assisi, where St. Francis preached his peace message 800 years earlier, churches and civic halls overflowed with the sounds and sights of some 15 major religions. The day, which began with a welcoming talk by the pope, conclud- ed with a joint service and a common meal that broke several hours of fast- ing by the estimated 150 Christian and non-Christian representatives. In between, in a rich display of the world's faiths, were separate peace prayers by Christians, Moslems, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, African ariimists.
