The Final also went to extra time to demonstrate just how competitive the Premier Division has been this season and after playing the role bridesmaid twice already this season ILKESTON TOWN finally made it to the altar beating Nantwich 2-1 in front of a crowd approaching 2,000. Just as in the top Division it was second and third place teams BELPER TOWN and STOCKSBRIDGE PS who made the First Division South play-off final with the latter having a convincing 5-2 win thanks to a Mark Ward treble against CARLTON TOWN whilst Belper needed just the one goal to oust RUSHALL OLYMPIC. In the Final it was third place Stocksbridge that came out on top thanks to one strike from Andy Ring. There was a big shock in the First Division North play-offs, however, when CURZON ASHTON knocked out second place SKELMERSDALE UNITED after finishing a massive eighteen points adrift of “Skem” whose manager Tommy Lawson must hate the end of season lottery having lost three times in it, twice with Skelmersdale in the last two seasons and once previously with Prescot Cables. It is a crying shame that Edgeley Park never having looked so good coincides with impoverished Stockport County being at their lowest ebb. Yet another Northern club to lose Football League status, the unhappy Hatters, their century-plus membership of the elite curtailed abruptly last May, are enduring an utterly miserable debut season in Conference National. This victory, barely deserved, was only their fourth in 27 league games. No wonder County’s long-suffering fans, several of whom around us had clearly become embittered by the struggles and disappointments of recent seasons, were so overjoyed to hear the final whistle. Terminal decline cannot be much fun. The tip-top upkeep of Edgeley Park owes at least as much to the presence of Sale Sharks rugby union club as the efforts of County, who are now very much the junior partner in a long-standing sharing arrangement. Rugby union, certainly at the top level, appears to be awash with cash, and Edgeley Park, all-seated these days, has benefited accordingly. County might have begun the transformation, but Sale ensure the good work does not go to waste. The well-heeled types who tend to watch rugby union will not (on the whole) tolerate the inadequate facilities found so frequently away from the apex of football’s pyramid.     Season 2015-2016 Season Review - Results – Tables - Statistics Compiled by Dominic McKenzie with editorial by Dave Watters The 2015-16 EVO-STIK Northern Premier League campaign saw Darlington 1883 romp to the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division title in style with a 6-1 victory at Whitby Town, the Quakers winning their third promotion in four years with a game to spare after beating North East rivals Blyth Spartans to the line in what ended as a two way race. The runners-up also lost out in the play-offs to Salford City, the Ammies going up for the second successive season since their takeover by Manchester United’s Class of 92 but this time doing it the hard way after their third place finish. Stafford Rangers and Warrington Town won the EVO-STIK NPL’s two other title races, the latter collecting 106 points to earn the right to play at the highest level in the club’s history. First Division North runners-up Spennymoor Town were promoted alongside them via the play-offs. After leading the First Division South table by double digit margins, Stafford Rangers only took the title from Shaw Lane Aquaforce by a single point on the final day of the campaign. In the top flight, Stamford, Ramsbottom United, Hyde United and Colwyn Bay went down, the last two both suffering second successive relegations. Daventry Town needn’t have bothered asking for voluntary relegation after finishing second bottom to Tividale in First Division South. New Mills and Harrogate Railway Athletic finished the campaign occupying the two relegation spots in First Division North, the Millers earning unwanted national headlines for their never-say-die attitude while failing to win a single league outing all season.

Stripes returned in 1975 after twelve years of solid amber shirts, but the most striking element of the new kit was the white shorts that created a throwback look, referencing Tigers kits used between World Wars. Shirt advertising was still a few years away, but sportswear firms were pushing boundaries in the 1970s: Europa of Leicestershire became the first supplier to put their logo on a City kit. First used in 1975/76, this shirt design is commonly associated with signed Billy Bremner signing from Leeds United. There were several versions, the first of which had Europa's logo without a wordmark, that was added for 1976/77. For 1978/79, City replaced the monogram with a tiger head crest, at the same time dropping white shorts in favour of the black set previously used with the away kit.
