It's Finally Here, the 2015 Nfr Begins This Week DECEMBER 1, 2015 Volume 9: Issue 48 In this issue... • 2015 Barrel Horses of the NFR, pg 25 • Thanksgiving Race, Buckeye, AZ, pg 28 • Fiddlers Turkey Run, pg 30 • Barrel Bash, Topeka, KS, pg 35 fast horses, fast news • Gobble Up the Cash, pg 37 Published Weekly Online at www.BarrelRacingReport.com - Since 2007 It’s Finally Here, the 2015 NFR Begins this Week Does the wait until Thursday night seem like a century this week at work? Time seems to stand still the week leading up to the NFR kickoff! Especially when this year’s National Finals Rodeo (NFR) pays a record $10 million (compared to $6.375 million in 2014), the barrel racers alone are running at $1.1 million in prize money this year; so this will be the most epic NFR us rodeo fans have ever seen. Each year, the NFR pays so well the standings can be turned upside down within a couple rounds, but this year, with the rounds each paying $26,231 to win and the average paying out a whopping $67,269 for the win; the regular season standings really are just a way of getting qualified to the NFR. The World Champion could be any of the Top 15; the World Champion will be the lucky barrel racer who’s horse is on top of his/her game for those 10 days. This year’s Top 15 is another interesting mix of talent; with 6 first time NFR qualifiers, 4 others with 3 or less trips to the NFR, and then on the opposite end of the spectrum is Sherry Cervi who is headed to her 18th National Finals Rodeo. The horses are also a very interesting mix of talent, they are by leading sires such as Dash Ta Fame, PC Frenchmans Hayday, A Streak Of Fling, Dash For Perks, Dr Nick Bar, Designer Red, Frenchmans Guy, along with grand get of Fire Water Flit, Judge Cash among others. This group of ultra talented horses includes former futurity champions, open divisional champions, and rodeo champions. According to our best estimate, the NFR barrel horses this year represent over an amazing $7 million of winnings! So the talent at this year’s NFR is proven and potent. It is always fun for us to discuss a few interesting notes and observations on each of the NFR qualifiers. Maybe it will help you with your fantasy team! Hope you enjoy our 2015 NFR preview. One of the most fascinating stories of this year’s NFR is stand- ings leader Callie duPerier and her awesome buckskin, Rare Dillion. This is amazingly the third barrel racer Dillon has carried to the Finals. Annesa Self trained the speedy buckskin, took him through the futurity and derby ranks until he carried Self to a 2008 NFR Qualification. He then went on to carry Carlee Pierce to the Finals in 2011 & 2012 and now he has carried duPerier to the promised land in 2015. Even though this is duPerier’s first trip to the NFR, having a backup Dillon, he is also a very fast and experienced winner. Look horse as experienced as Rare Dillion at the Thomas & Mack is for duPerier and Dillon to go after some go round wins throughout sure to settle her nerves and give her a ton of confidence as she the week! runs down the alley. Rare Dillion has run a ton of fast times there, duPerier comes into the NFR $15,000 in front of veteran Lisa including holding the arena record of 13.46 (with Carlee Pierce in Lockhart and has gained confidence with every run through the 2011) for a couple years. duPerier will bring Dash Ta Diamonds to 2015 NFR Qualifier Q&A Continued on Page 4 NFR NEWS .......NFR NEWS......NFR news......NFR News......NFR News... at 5 p.m. That’s when Steve Kenyon and Amy Wilson will provide up-to-the-minute news and conduct interviews with contestants, 2015 NFR TV Schedule entertainers and more. Contact: Sarah Van Ert, Rodeo Austin® 512.919.3000 phone 512.919.3005 fax [email protected] www.rodeoaustin.com FIRST PLAYOFF ROUND TAKES PLACE AT RODEO AUSTIN Austin, Texas, March 24, 2015 – Tonight Rodeo Austin kicks off the first playoff round of the Ride for the Brand Cowboy Tournament. Ten competitors from the qualifying rounds in each event will ride for the chance to win a spot in the finals on March 28. Saddle-bronc rider Clint Hopping will return tonight after placing second on March 15th in the second qualifying round. “I like the format this year,” Hopping said. “Each round is a clean slate for each rider, a fair chance to win a check and I’m glad I made it to the playoffs.” The next four days of rodeo will bring great competition as cowboys and cowgirls showcase their hard work while riding for the brand. “I started out at smaller rodeos to work up to getting to big rodeos like this,” Hopping said. “This is my first time competing here at Rodeo Austin in saddle bronc. Walking in today to the semi-finals meant so much to me to be here on my own.” Hopping will not advance to the finals, but that won’t keep him from holding his head high like a true cowboy. “I rode good, I felt good, the horse bucked, the crowd cheered, Boyz II Men is playing and there was a great atmosphere,” Hopping said. “Because of the nature of this rodeo, its stature and the weight it carries in our sport I felt like a true bronc rider.” Rodeo Austin is proud to support cowgirls and cowboys as they make a name for themselves in the great sport of rodeo.

EXPO CENTER DUNCAN, OKLAHOMA Welcome to the 2020 Bred to Buck Sale, With all the changes going on in the world, one thing that remains the same is our focus of producing elite bucking bulls. For over 35 years, we have strived to produce the very best in the business. We know the competition gets better every year so we work to remain a leader in the industry. One thing we have proven is all the great bulls are backed by proven cow families. Our program takes great pride in our cows and we KNOW they are the key to our operation. We sell 200 plus females each year between the Fall Female Sale and this Bred to Buck Female Sale, so we have our cow herd fine-tuned to only the most proven cow families. It is extremely hard to select females for this sale knowing that many of our very best cows will be leaving the program. However, we do take pride in the success our customers have with the Page genetics. There are so many great success stories from our customers, and we can’t begin to tell them all. Johna Page Bland, Office 2020 is a year we will never forget, our country has experienced changes and regulations that we have never seen throughout history. ===== GAME GAB • WEEK THREE LINER NOTES CONTENTS • Pete Adams/Rob Gallamore, bull riding (revised) • James Cast, bull riding (revised) • Rob Gallamore, tie-down roping (new) • Elan Oliff, steer wrestling (new) ===== DESIGNER NOTES/EMAIL JAMES CAST Keith and Sam, Thanks for last night's show. That was fun. I got a lot of good feedback from Keith and also picked up some ideas from the others who participated. I have streamlined my game considerably! I also converted the cards and charts to PDF to make it easier to share. I like the progress to date and looking forward to getting some play testing done with it. Feel free to share it with others, and they can also have my email address. Now ... I wanted to get this over quickly, because I have an idea for the whole rodeo concept. It's based on the Wrestling card game Book It! You start with a stable of local cowboys and in the course of several events you try to amass enough reputation points to be a top rodeo promoter. Cards would include cowboy cards, venue cards, and special event cards (i see this where you would include chuckwagon, cowboy poker, and other special events to boost reputation). I haven't thought through most of the conceptual pieces yet, but in essence it's a deck building game (right up Sam's alley). ===== ROB GALLAMORE Here you go Keith, this is what my Tie Down Roping Game looks like. I exported it to a pdf this time. I bought Affinity Publisher about a week ago as it was half price.
