As Kennedy freshmen embark on their journey toward graduation, a year- long pro- gram offers mentorship from upperclassmen students. Link Crew is a high school transition program that assists freshmen throughout their first year of high school. link leaders help freshmen succeed. link leaders are stu- dents who have shown leader- ship from a variety of school organizations, clubs, and sports teams. As positive role models, link crew leaders are mentors who help the first- year students discover what it takes to be suc- cessful during the transition to high school. link leaders teach lessons on time management, balancing social life, school life, extracurricular activities, fami- ly life, and achieving excellence. Social events are also organized so that Link Leaders and fresh- men reconnect several times a year to strengthen the relation- ships they established early on. So far, Link Crew has gotten positive reviews. Melihat Yasemin Karaca (10th grade) states,“ Link crew leaders were extremely helpful in the begin- ning of freshman year. They welcome you to the school and make you feel understood.” In addition to positive reviews from the students who ben- efited from Link Crew, many of the link leaders also appreciate this program.
