THE PITCHING MATCH-UP: RHP Ryne Inman (8-7, 4.59 ERA) vs. RHP Kevin Gowdy (0-5, 4.83 ERA) Inman: Tossed first-ever Power nine-inning complete game shutout at LWD (CH 12K) August 8 Gowdy: Gave up one run on four hits over three innings of relief August 8 vs. West Virginia MARTIN, RINEHART BLANK ‘CLAWS IN 1-0 WIN: Matt Martin dazzled the Lakewood BlueClaws over six CURRENT HOMESTAND shutout innings, hurling his second consecutive quality start and combining with Logan Rinehart to hold Lakewood to five hits in a 1-0 Power win Friday evening at Appalachian Power Park. The Power relief corps has surrendered just SV/OPP: 1/1 SV/OPP: 4/4 one earned run in their last 16.1 innings of work (0.55 ERA) on five hits over the last four games. BB: 0 High BB: 25/Low BB: 14 SO: 5 High SO: 79/Low SO: 40 SURGING SANDERS: Sanders continued his consistent month of August for West Virginia Friday night, notching HR: 0 High HR: 10/Low HR: 3 the only run-scoring knock for the Power with his first-inning single. The infielder has hit safely in 21 of his last 24 Errors: 0 High Errors: 11/Low E: 1 contests and is boasting a .313 (30-for-96) clip, the 11th-best batting average in the SAL in that span (July 28-current), with three homers and 10 RBI. Sanders is tied for the team lead with three homers (Onil Pena) and leads the squad 2019 VS. BLUECLAWS with nine RBI in the month of August. He is one of three active Power hitters to have an average above .300 (.317) in 11-4 the season’s penultimate month. West Virginia’s .595 winning April 17 Charleston 7-1, Win percentage is second-best in the league (Delmarva, .625), while their 42 one-run games played are seventh-most in the April 30 Lakewood 2-0, Win May 1 Lakewood 2-1, Win SAL. West Virginia has now won six 1-0 decisions, the most 1-0 wins in a single season in Power history (2005-present). May 2 Lakewood 10-0, Loss June 20 Lakewood 5-4, Loss (F/10) HANGING ZEROES: Thanks to their 1-0 win yesterday, West Virginia recorded its 12th shutout victory of the season, June 21 Lakewood 1-0, Win (F/10) surpassing the Greensboro Grasshoppers for the most shutout wins in the South Atlantic League. In fact, the Power June 22 Lakewood 3-2 Win is tied with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for the fifth-most blankings across all of Low-A baseball. With two more June 23 Lakewood 7-4, Loss shutouts, the 2019 club would have the most shutouts by a team in Power history (13, 2016 and 2011). August 8 Lakewood 3-0, Win August 9 Lakewood 3-1, Win Auugst 10 Lakewood 7-1, Loss SWEET PROMOTED: During the Power’s middle match against the RiverDogs Wednesday evening, the Seattle August 11 Lakewood 6-1, Win Mariners announced that RHP Devin Sweet had been promoted to the High-A Modesto Nuts. Sweet leaves the South August 23 Charleston 1-0, Win Atlantic League with a 7-5 record and a 3.06 ERA, fourth-best in the SAL, as well as 131 strikeouts in 108.2 innings August 24 Charleston 6:05 p.m. of work.
